Slightly Sickola

Had a pretty decent weekend.  Mike and I went over the river to pick up a package my mother had ordered.  We hit Tops and got some yummy noms.  After that we headed to Jan’s to drop off her item, then back to my place.  We were greeted by some bright-eyed and non-bushy tailed kittahs:

Unfortunately, I woke up rather sickola on Sunday.  Seems like I picked up a bit of a stomach bug as I was sick all morning.  Early in the afternoon, Mike and I were both rather hungry, but I really didn’t have the energy or desire to make anything.  I did, however, go all out and make a big bowl of instant mashed potatoes.  I didn’t even have the drive to put it on plates so out to the couch I went with our lunch in hand:

Grab a spoon and dig in!  Rather gourmet, don’t ya think?

Abby seemed to feel like me that day, as she spent most of the day like this:

Mind you, it could just be because she’s a cat.

We watched Hunger Games in the afternoon and called it an early night.

I had my aviation medical today and I’m happy to report I’m all good to go until next time.  It was my first time with this doctor, as my previous aviation medical doc retired recently.  He was very nice and I’ll certainly have no issues going back to him for my future renewals.  I just hope my token works in the exit machine-thing next time, as I was kinda trapped in the parking lot after my appointment.

Today’s symptoms:  Still not feeling great since my little weekend sickola spell.  However, I feel a little better today than yesterday.  I plan on feeling even better tomorrow.  Hoping to take some vacation time in the afternoon.  Nothing big and exciting to report on the MS front – same ol’ symptoms, different day.  It’s all good though!

MS Sucks

Ok, I’m very rarely negative in my blogs, so I’m going to keep this little vent short and sweet.  I have never experienced full body pain like what I’ve been dealing with for the last two days.  Wowsa!  Feels like my whole bod is being crushed in a big, yucky vice.  Had to go home from work early yesterday and went in late today.  Not sure if this is a bit of a flare-up or what, but it must stop immediately!  Geesh!  My fatigue has been much worse than normal too.  I actually fell asleep multiple times at a meeting yesterday, and there were only six of us sitting across the table from each other.  I’m sure people noticed.  The amusing part was staggering back to my desk and trying to read the notes I took for the minutes.  Looks like I’ll be doing some creative writing!  Should be entertaining, at least!

Ok, on a happy note, life is still awesome.  On Sunday, Mike and I went to breakfast with some of our Recreational Aircraft Association folks.  I thought Donkay would like to join us.  He whispered something into Sandy’s ear at one point:

And was launched across the table on more than one occasion.  Hey, it’s an aviation group and flying is a good thing!

I felt like fries for breakkie so asked for a basket.  Wow, a basket is right:

At least I had dinner the next night as well.  I think Dave had some leftovers too.  He decided to order the fish and chips (it was after 11:00, so not exactly breakkie).  Check out this enormous mound of noms:

I think he ordered the breaded whale.  The food at Iggy’s Pub and Grub in Fonthill is great – I definitely recommend it.

After noms, we headed over to Leon’s so Mike could check out some furniture for his new place.  He passed out on the bed he decided to buy.  I covered him with a flyer to make him look a little more presentable to the public:

Geesh!

I was a total nut during the two and a half hours we were there.  I kinda felt bad for Chuck, who was helping us out.  I asked him for a reinforced bed frame to support my morbid obesity, called him “Chucky Boy” at one point, and had a really hard time not making faces while the kid wandering around us was horking and hacking all over everything.  I even got him to pose with me for a pic:

Tormenting people is fun!  The best part was Mike’s the one who spent all the money yet I was given this adorable Leons toy van!

Yup, life is good!

I think the plan tonight is to get in my jammies and crawl into bed to read.  I’m sure I’ll feel better tomorrow.  I kinda have to – we’re having our RAA Christmas dinner at the Mandarin tomorrow evening.  Slurp!

Today’s symptoms:  see above!

Anniversary Awesomeness

Had some decent weather the other night so I went up for a quick night flight.

I just flew over to Grimsby and did five super quick touch and goes there.  A full circuit usually takes about five minutes to complete, however, I ended up doing all five in less than fifteen minutes.  I was in a bit of a rush as the Flying Club was closing at 6:00 and I took off around 5:10.

I was surprised how busy the QEW was:

And a shot coming back into St. Catharines:

It was a nice flight and I’m all current with my night rating again (need to do six take offs and landings within six months to remain current).

Had a rather nice surprise today.  It was the one year anniversary for Mike and I (clearly he has a high tolerance level!), so he said he was taking me somewhere special.  I had no idea where we were going, just that it was in Toronto.  I had a few ideas of where it was, one of which being Medieval Times.  I had been there about 20 years ago and loved it.  I was so thrilled when I found out that we were going tonight.  Mike bought us awesome seats too – front row in the centre.  I really wish I brought my good camera, but only had my phone.  The pics I took aren’t great – guess we’ll have to go back with the camera.

Here’s a pic of “Sir Richard.”  This dude was awesome – was great at getting the crowd fired up and was quite amusing as well:

For some strange reason (since I love meat), I decided to get the vegetarian noms.  Very good, glad I did.  I swiped some of Mike’s chicken, so at least I got my protein.

We were cheering for the red and yellow dude:

When I was there the first time, they had one “evil” knight (green), but now there are no bad dudes.  Also, I controlled myself this time and didn’t yell “Kill the king!”

The horse demonstrations were amazing (too bad my pictures aren’t):

This fella went airborne:

The horse actually yelled “Weeeeeeee!!!!” while he was in the air!

The show was amazing and we definitely want to go back.  After the show, Mike took my pic with Sir Richard, the King and the Princess:

We got home just after 8:00 tonight and were greeted by four naked ladies in my apartment:

And then Mya decided to stare at the back of the couch.  Dork:

Yup, four weirdos and one Christmas rat:

Tomorrow we’ll be going to breakfast with a bunch of peeps from our Recreational Aircraft Association, then Mike wants to check out some furniture at good ol’ Leons.

Today’s symptoms: For some reason, over the last week I’ve been experiencing much more pain than normal.  It’s all over my whole body too – it literally feels like my bones are being crushed.  I had a little pep talk with my bod and told it I’ve had enough of it’s silliness and to smarten up and feel better by tomorrow.  Geesh.

Awesome Birthday

Had a great week – Thursday was my birthday.  Mike got me some great Disney Plane related merchandise.  Needless to say, I love the main character Dusty, who has a rather similar paint scheme to my plane:

Can’t wait to see the movie again!

Jan gotz me some awesome stuff too, sticking with the orange theme.

Mike took me out to Kelseys for my birthday dinner.  Had an awesome steak dinner and he had a massive hamburger:

When we got home, Boo was posing with my Dusty pillow:

Meanwhile, Pinky decided to knock my hoodie off the dresser and make it into her tent:

My cats are dorks.  Well, I kinda am too.  One night, Abby had her little leg up in the air and was licking her belly.  I wanted to help her out so I held her leg up for her for almost five minutes:

We might as well stick with the cat theme for a bit.  Pinky was really enjoying watching a World’s Dumbest show that was on.  Pawed at the people and cars:

Meanwhile, Boo got all snuggly under her blanket.  Mya decided she would share in her kitty warmth, and joined her:

For my last two birthday’s, I had medical tests done.  Last year was a yucky bladder scope and the year before that was two MRI’s.  I had one done during the work day in Niagara Falls.  When I got back to work, I got a call from the hospital stating they missed a series and I had to go back and get it redone.  This year I was supposed to have my Tysabri infusion.  I said No way! and scheduled it for the next day.  I decided to be a dork and bring in one of my joyous Dusty toys for comfort and comical relief:

Last night there was a pot luck dinner at the St. Catharines Flying Club.  Great turn out, company and noms.  The cat at the Club has clearly got himself ready for winter with around 23 pounds of cat fat:

When we got back to my apartment, Mike and I decided to play some Black Ops on the Xbox.  After a couple rounds, we noticed something that I’ve never seen before.  Pinky and Abby (who are total enemies), sat together on my cable receiver.  I don’t understand how one minute they can get along and the next they’re back-pawing each other:

Another oddity happened at the same time time.  Mya managed to squish herself between the wall and side table:

I tried to coax her out and there was a bit of an incident.  (I discretely covered her naughty bits):

Ugh!

Mike stayed over tonight and after a long day of shopping and Xbox playing, I made him this gourmet, red neck dinner of turkey hot dogs speared with spaghetti:

My mother is so proud of her daughter’s exceptional cooking skills.  Look out, Ramsey!

Today’s symptoms:  Not feeling too bad.  Some more than tolerable aches and pains in my forearms and hands, plus a fairly bad headache, but overall, it was a pretty good day symptom-wise!

Back From Rochester

My little mother and I went shopping in Rochester from Thursday to Saturday.  It’s kinda our annual tradition now.  We stayed at the Holiday Inn near the Marketplace Mall.  As we did last year, we hit that mall on our first day, then over to the Eastview Mall on Friday.  We decided to have a little drinky Thursday night, so went over to the very large liquor store attached to Wegman’s.  Large is an understatement – this is just their vodka section:

Holy Moses, smell the roses!

After our dinner, which was included with the cost of the room, we walked over to a bunch of nearby shops.  Our favourite, The Christmas Tree Shop, was the one we hit first.  This store is like the old Bargain Harolds stores.  It does not just sell Christmas trees, as the name would suggest.  Another nearby store was Five and Under where we picked up a few little goodies.  I can’t really remember what other stores we staggered to that night.

Day two we slept in until about 8:30, then headed down to breakfast.  The one server there was a total firecracker.  She had such an amazing and outgoing personality, kept calling people mama and sugar.  The place was energized by her.

After breakkie, we went over to Eastview Mall.  This one has a few higher end stores, such as Von Maur.  Kinda like a Nordstroms.  In the space in front of the store was high end furniture people could chill on, which surrounded a huge four-sided fireplace.  We knew we were going to look like a pair of country bumpkins going in there, however we decided to have a peek.  We couldn’t even count how many christmas trees were all over the store, plus they had a pianist.  This is the view from the second floor:

Pretty schnazy.

One of the main reasons I love this mall so much is because they have a Buckle, which is my favourite store.  All of their clothes are so unique and blingy.  The guy there was so nice and brought out a new top from the back.  I had just picked up one similar and he thought he would give me another choice.  I told him that I didn’t appreciate his high pressure tactics, than happily took both tops.  I picked out this awesome little number last year, although they didn’t have the right size so they had it ordered and sent to the Buffalo store.  Sweet:

I’m rarely in the mood to buy clothes, but I can’t walk out of that store empty-pawed.

After all of the excitement of the new clothes, we decided to get a couple cookies to boost our sugar.  How cute is this?

Yummola!

My mother and I both noticed the big black circles under my eyes.  The worse my MS symptoms are, the worse they get.  It hasn’t helped having a sinus infection either.  Jan suggested I go into the Sephora store and ask someone what I could do to lessen them, or at least give me a paper bag to put over my head.  We were greeted by Amelia, who said she had a great product for my puffy, dark under-eyes.  I figured I would humour both her and my mother, as I really didn’t think anything would help.  She put Organics GinZing under my eyes.  I felt bad as I kept pulling back – the feeling of someone touching me that close to my eyeballs really creeped me out.  Anyway, after she was done, I turned to my mother and she couldn’t believe the difference.  Still totally skeptical, I checked it out for myself.  Wow!  This stuff is amazing!  It’s going to be nice to not always look as sick as I feel, at least under my eyes!

With my fresh new look, Jan and I headed over to a pet store.  Probably not a good idea since I fell in love with a few little cuties, such as her:

We were kinda disappointed when we found out that the included dinner at the hotel was only Monday – Thursday, so we had to go find our own noms.  We headed over to Wegmans and got some really good food.  Neither my mother or I wanted to eat on the bed, and there was only one chair at the desk in the room, so I just stood in front of the TV whilst nomming:

Once done our food and a couple drinks, we walked back over to the plaza nearby to visit some more stores.  We hit the Christmas Tree Shop again and that is where I spelled out Boo’s name with bottles of oil and vinegar.  It was a little tribute to her upcoming 6th birthday on November 28:

I kinda wish she was born a week earlier so we would have the same birthday.

I did something a little silly in the store (shocking, I know!).  Just as I was walking by a phone on the wall, it rang.  I instantly picked it up and said hello.  The guy asked if “we” sold Christmas photo albums there and I replied “I’m pretty sure we do!”  He said thanks and I said you’re welcome and Merry Christmas!  Hmmmm….I really hope they do sell them so the poor guy doesn’t make a trip there for nothing!

On Saturday, we figured out which big box stores we would hit before heading home.  I still wanted to find the Disney Planes Dusty slippers I saw online.  I was hoping I could manage to get my size 8 feet into the largest boys size they had, but I was sorely disappointed:

That was the only thing I wanted to get during this trip that didn’t work out.  Fortunately, buying this stuffed Dusty helped with the mourning process:

It was a really great trip, although exhausting.  Mike asked me to meet up with him and his friends Saturday night to go to the Mandarin.  I wasn’t positive if I would have enough energy to go, but I made it.  It was great meeting his friends.  And of course, the Mandarin is always great.  For Mike’s final plate of food, he headed to the dessert section.  I told him he needed another scoop of their awesome mashed potatoes so I plunked them and a lone noodle on his plate:

Nothing more appetizing than cake, a nanaimo bar, cheesecake, mashed potatoes and a noodle!

We went out to breakfast this morning with a group of folks from our Recreational Aircraft Association.  We meet at Iggy’s, a great little restaurant in Fonthill.  The waitress was amazing and knew everyone’s usual noms, right down to white or brown toast and how they liked their bacon!

Today’s symptoms:  Not surprising at all, I was very fatigued and weak today.  Understandable after all the excitement over the last few days.  I’m sure I’ll have more energy and strength tomorrow.

Bully

For some reason, my eldest and tiniest (5 pounds) cat is being a bit of a bully.  I know she likes warm spots, but it’s kinda mean to bite your sister’s bum to take over her spot.  Boo also sleeps on the couch and for some reason, Mya keeps taking her place.  She was sitting on Boo when I came home today:

As you can tell, Boo wasn’t amused.  Sticking with the bully theme, I was kinda one last night.  We were at our monthly RAA meeting and had just done the 50/50 drive.  Mike dropped the can with all the tickets.  He just about had them all picked up…

Then I “accidentally” kicked the can over:

Tee hee!

Oh and this weekend we went to the mall and Mike was trying on some pants.  I “accidentally” moved a cart in front of his fitting room door:

Wow – I’ve learned a lot from my bully kitty!

Didn’t do too much over the last week.  I’ve been dealing with a pretty bad sinus infection but the new meds I was prescribed are starting to kick in.  I’ve basically been chilling at home lately.  Mike and I watched a movie while I was chillin’ the other night.  We both strongly recommend the Haunting in Connecticut.  I think I liked it even better than the Conjouring and Insidious.  Since it was a rather spooky movie, we didn’t really want the kids to see it.  Mike kept Abby busy during the scary scenes, by showing her a fly on my lamp:

Today’s symptoms: Felt pretty lousy today and had to go home early.  Lots of aches and pains plus the sinus headache.

Tons To Share!

I have so much to write about in this blog.  First, I went for a flight around the area on Wednesday.  Got some nice pics of a boat going through the canal:

It was really nice to be up in the air again.  I hadn’t flown for about three weeks.

Mike and I went to an Ice Dogs hockey game on Saturday.  They were playing Erie (in the dark blue).  There were a few fights:

The Ice Dogs didn’t do too well that night, as I think the final score was 5-0.  Ugh!  That was Mike’s first hockey game ever, so that in itself made it a little more exciting.

When back from the game, some of the kitties got a bath.  Here I am trying to make Abby feel a little better, as baths are not fun (according to my cats):

I was so glad the weather was perfect on Sunday.  During a Bingo Run through the 99′s (female aviation group) this past summer, Mike and I won a few great prizes.  One was an air to air photo by Peter Lubig, a professional aviation photographer.  I was to meet him at an airport up in Barrie, so Mike and I took off from St. Catharines around 8:30 on Sunday morning.

We drank our Timmies on the way:

Finding the small airport was a little tricky, but the runway finally came into view:

Peter flew in around 10:30.  He had his friend (the pilot while Peter took the pics) meet us at the airport before he arrived, which was rather nice.  Peter showed me some of the pics he took recently with his awesome camera:

After discussing how the photo shoot would work, we headed back up.  I took off first and Peter came up behind us on the right:

A little closer…

A little closer…

Hello!  It was so much fun to fly so close to another plane.  It’s much harder than it looks!  Total blast though.  He was shooting for about 20 minutes.  We stayed fairly close to the airport.  After a a few turns and different positions in the air, the photo shoot was done and we parted ways:

I’m so excited to see how the pictures turned out!

There were no washrooms at the Springwater Airport where we took off from, so we decided to land at Brampton to use the facilities and get some noms.  I thought it would be good if Vyctor had a drink too:

Soon after, we took off from the always busy Brampton Airport:

Heading south of Toronto, we noticed a rather large plume of smoke.  Kinda sad to see it was a building – hoping it was just a brush fire:

Getting closer to home, I think some of the fumes from the factories in Hamilton seeped into the plane and subsequently our brains.  We started to feel a little “off”:

Fortunately, the effects didn’t last too long and we safely made it back to St. Catharines:

What an amazing day.  I’ll certainly show my bloggers how the air to air pictures turned out!

Back at my apartment, my kitties all decided that they wanted a drink from the tap in the bathroom.  What the heck?

They’re so weird.  Pinky did something unique when I got home from work today.  She sat on the stuffed sheep and stuck her front paws on the heater:

It’ll be interesting to see if she ever does this again.

Today’s symptoms: Needless to say, I was quite fatigued today after my long but awesome day yesterday.  Typically when the fatigue is worse, so are the rest of the symptoms, such as pains in my hands and arms, headache and just generally feeling blah.  Tomorrow will be better!

Blah Week

Nothing super exciting to report over the last week, but a few good things did happen.  On Monday, we had our monthly RAA meeting.  Mike took a pic of me looking like a dork, chairing the meeting:

We had a pretty good turn out and listened to a great presentation on the Silver Dart replica, which some of the RAA folks built.  It’s now in the Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Baddeck, NS.

On Friday of last week, I had my joyous Tysabri infusion.  Went pretty well.  I usually have to get poked a couple of times because my veins don’t like to cooperate.  Mind you, we applied heat for the second needle stick and it went in great.  I was so thrilled after the hour long infusion that I tweaked this dummies nip on the way to the washroom:

Ok, so the nurses there think I’m a little whacked.  It’s all good though!  I kinda proved to Mike the other day how whacked I really am with the little pressie I made him.  I have no idea why I made this or what he’s supposed to do with it, but it’s a sheep on a stick:

I even took the time to reinforce the sheep with a cardboard backing.  Mike’s face was rather amusing when I gave it to him.

Jan had a similar look of shock when I sent her this picture:

She’s been looking everywhere for Cream of Wheat in the instant packages.  I finally found some and on sale, so I bought a couple boxes.

This weekend, the kitties got their dreaded baths.  Poor Pinky looked a little contorted while I was cleaning her neck:

As usual, Abby was pretty quiet.  I gave her a smooch when she let out a tiny mew though:

Mya didn’t need a bath so she stood in the bathroom sink, getting a drink:

Once bath time was over, Boo decided to create an igBoo and climbed inside to stay warm:

Something kinda creepy happened at my apartment the other day.  Actually, this is the second time.  The woman who moved in across the hall recently put up a scarecrow wreath that kinda looked like mine.  We put them up about a day apart too.  This past weekend, we both put up our Halloween decor.  Here’s mine:

And hers:

Crazy minds think alike?

On the theme of Halloween decorations, we had a pumpkin brought into our office, done by a co-worker’s husband.  It’s our director:

Pretty awesome – looks just like him!

And last but not least for today’s blog, here is one of Mike’s cats trying to figure out a Rubix Cube:

Opposable thumbs would probably help.

Today’s symptoms:  Not feeling well today and had to go home early.  Very fatigued plus my over month-long sinus infection is progressively getting worse.  I’m really looking forward to seeing my GP on Thursday to get some meds for it.  I would have gone in sooner but you can’t be on antibiotics while getting a Tysabri infusion.

Getting Chilly Out!

The weather has been rather poopy lately.  The cold has finally rolled in, as well as the stinky rain.  Supposed to be this way until into the weekend.  Kind of a bummer since it’s going on three weeks since I’ve flown.  I miss my plane!

Speaking of planes, I got to see one of my Christmas pressies from my mother.  I really wanted a framed posted of Dusty from the Disney movie Planes.  I downloaded the perfect pic of him, then sent it to Wal-Mart to get a large canvass  poster made.  Turned out perfectly:

Can’t wait to see it up on my wall.  Right now it’s in my closet, ready to be wrapped/bagged for Christmas.

I was in a training course at work last week.  It was only a day long.  I decided to give myself a ghetto name, which I wrote on my name plaque.  It was Le-a.  The instructor said “Ok Lea, or Leah, or….”  I said the dash isn’t silent so it’s pronounced Ledasha.  It was then requested by some other folks in the class that I give them ghetto names as well:

By the end of the day, everyone had a new name.  The last one was Latoya Margarita.

Continuing with work, I spoke with a co-worker today who gave me a good laugh.  She said that she went over the river to do some shopping and tried on some shoes.  She had a little incident in which she actually fell off the shoe.  One would think it would be a little stumble – perhaps a tad embarrassing.  That wasn’t enough for her – she wanted to go all out.  She actually broke her foot!  Being a true shopper, she didn’t want to stop and take time to go to the hospital.  Well, she did a WEEK later!  Ugh!  Of course, wandering around on it for a week kinda made it much worse.  Later in the conversation she said “I’m not the brightest bulb.”  My response was “Well, you did fall off a shoe and break your foot!”  Tee hee.  As bad as I felt that she had this experience, telling me about it and having a laugh really brightened my day.

I was a little shocked when my friend texted me after work tonight and asked if I noticed the building across the street from our office.  I went out the back door today so didn’t see anything out front.  Wow:

Not much to it anymore.  Used to be a rather nice, two storey large house with different offices in it.  I’m interested in hearing why they tore it down.

Had this interesting little scene the other day…..Abby (far left) and Pinky are kinda enemies.  Weird to see both of them sitting so close together, with little innocent Mya between them:

Pinky is starting to grow a little tired of her hospital hat.  Mya tried it on but wasn’t too enthused:

Also not enthused was Boo when I pulled the covers off her noggin to take her pic:

Today’s symptoms: Feeling ok fatigue-wise today.  A little better than average, which was quite nice.  Since yesterday though I’ve been having pretty severe sensitivity of three of my fingers on my left hand.  This is usually an issue I have on the tops of my thighs, where just my pants against the skin feels like acid.  Never had it on my fingers before.  Had a little pep-talk with them and told them to quit their sensitivity silliness by the time I wake up tomorrow.

Gobble, Gobble

This past weekend was Thanksgiving.  As I recall, I was quite ill over Thanksgiving last year and kinda missed it.  This year I was recovering from surgery so missed it again!  Oh well!  I got to smell all of the turkey dinners being cooked throughout my apartment building all weekend – drool!  It was torture but not the end of the world.  I got to spend lots of time with my little kitties, which I was quite thankful for.  Little Abby and Mya:

Pinky was busy tasting the rainbow:

That’s her favourite toy which I replace each Christmas.

And Boo in a self-made cave:

Peek-A-Boo!

Needless to say, it was a very quiet and relaxing weekend.  Mike was kind enough to stop by on Sunday and brought me some delicious turkey noms.  We also walked down to Tim Hortons – it was the first time I left the apartment since coming back from the hospital.  I was seriously starting to go stir crazy!

I’m feeling quite a bit better this week and was already back to work on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, Mike and I went to see Captain Philips with Tom Hanks.  It was awesome!  We then went over to Kelsey’s for dinner.  Slurp:

Came back to my place and Pinky was looking a little out of sorts.  What’s wrong, Pinky?  Missing something?

Ah, of course – I forgot about your NEW favourite toy:

Much better!  I’m going to have to go back to the hospital sometime and get some more hats for her!

Meanwhile, Boo did this:

Yes, my cats are weird.  At least little Abby was looking somewhat normal:

While at a pet store yesterday, I saw this oddity.  It’s a cat WITH fur:

Cute and felt so fluffy.  Speaking of which, Mike just sent me this adorable pic of one of his “weird, furred” kitties, sleeping with his friend:

While recovering, I was able to get through most of the book I was reading, which I mentioned in a previous blog:

I totally recommend reading this amazing book.  It was 973 pages of awesomeness.  I never wanted to put it down.  Can’t wait to read the next book, World Without End.

Today’s symptoms:  Kinda had quite a few yucky MS symptoms.  My fatigue level was average but I had a bad headache and some pretty severe crushing pains in three of my fingers and my left thigh.  Still dealing with a sinus infection, so that doesn’t help.

Surgery

Well I survived my surgery yesterday.  I had pre-op on Tuesday at the amazing new St. Catharines General Hospital.  Wow, is it ever nice!  Huge difference from the antiquated old hospital.

Yesterday, Mike took me over to the hospital for 12:45.  My surgery was scheduled for 2:45.  I was brought into the pre-op area within about 10 minutes.  The nurses were so nice – I’m sure working in the updated hospital is a bit of a morale booster too.  Mike was brought over to my bed once I got changed into a sexy gown and answered some questions from the nurses.  I was a little nervous about getting the IV in my hand, since it usually doesn’t go too well there.  It’s weird – I get at least one IV a month (probably had over 50 in my life) and yet I still get a little nervous about them.  No need to be nervous this time because the nurse did it perfectly.  What a relief!  After I was hooked up, she took this lovely picture of Mike and I in our sexy hats:

photo 1

Mike sat with me for over an hour until I was whisked off to the operating room.  Needless to say, we acted like goofs the entire time.  Since I wasn’t wearing any makeup, I thought it would be beneficial for everyone around me to don my hat in a different way:

I noticed there was a little pocket on my gown.  I was hoping the nurse put a little treat in there for me, since I hadn’t eaten since 9:00 the previous night.  I was shocked (and a little disturbed) when I looked into the pocket which wasn’t really a pocket.  Let’s just say I made eye contact with a usually covered part of my anatomy.  I was so distraught at the disturbing scene, I asked the nurse for some tape to close the pocket:

photo 2

Ok, so I’m a tad weird.

The surgery went well as did waking up in recovery.  Mike was brought over when I was brought to the second recovery room.   The nurses were great – very caring and accommodating.  Regardless, I was pretty happy to be heading back home.

Today I’m just dealing with a fair amount of pain and discomfort.  It’ll be worth it though.

I brought Mike’s hat home.  Pinky has a new favourite toy:

She’s so weird.

All of the goobers except for Mya enjoyed sunning out on the balcony.  Better enjoy it before the cold weather hits us:

Today’s symptoms:  Not too sure how much of today’s fatigue is from the surgery or the MS.  Just achy and feeling blah, but I’m sure I’ll be much better after resting this weekend.

Artwork

A couple days ago, we had a meeting at work.  It was actually very interesting, as it was about a new project which I am a part of.  Despite it being a good meeting, at the one hour and fifteen minute mark, I was starting to crave a coffee.  I nudged the girl next to me, pouted and whispered “coffeeeeeee” in her ear.  Her response – this amazing, life-like drawing of a dancing Tim Hortons coffee:

I know, you’re thinking the same thing I did when I first saw it: “There’s no way that isn’t a photograph!”  Well, it’s not!  It’s actually a pen drawing.

The same day at work, I finished a book by one of my favourite authors, Anita Shreve.  My friend suggested I read this book:

It’s 973 pages and weighs about 27 pounds, so it’s quite a work out to lug it back and forth to work.  I’m only on page 129 but am quite enjoying it thus far.

It was my day off today and I took up someone I had recently taken up for an aerobatic flight.  He often rides his motorcycle to Port Dover during the Friday 13th motorcycle extravaganzas.  He thought it would be neat to see it from a new perspective.  Mike and I just drove through the town when we went to Long Point for camping a couple weeks ago.  I couldn’t believe how many more wind turbines there were compared to just a year ago:

Quite a few were under construction:

We flew over the Tim Hortons that Mike and I stopped in on the way to Long Point:

A shot of the town:

You can see some of the trees have already changed colour.

Flying back, we passed this Pepto Bismol looking body of water:

Back in St. Catharines:

It was a great flight.  Looks like this weekend isn’t going to be too accommodating for any other flights.  Bummer.

Had a doctor appointment on Wednesday and found out there was a surgical cancellation right when I walked in the door, so they were able to book my surgery.  Going to the nice, new St. Catharines hospital a week today.  At least I’ll have the long Thanksgiving weekend to recover!

Speaking of recovering, Boo is a monkey and was frantically running around the apartment for over an hour.  Looks like she wore herself out:

Pinky, on the other paw, seems ready to rock:

Not too sure where the other two goobers are at the moment.

Today’s symptoms: Felt quite good all day.  Been having crushing pains worse than normal in my forearms and hands for the last few days.  It’s not to the point where it prevents me from doing anything.  They hurt just as bad when I’m not doing anything to when I’m typing or driving.  Just gotz to deal with the pain – suck it up and carry on!

Smile!

After a really rotten week symptom-wise, I was feeling a fair bit better (still very weak) on Friday and quite better on Saturday.  In the morning, I flew Mike and I to Brantford.  As we flew over Hamilton, another plane was just touching down there:

We were kinda happy to land in Brantford soon after passing over Hamilton, as coffee was seriously being craved.  As usual, Donkay joined us for the flight, as well as for breakfast:

Heading back over Hamilton, a West Jet flight had just landed and folks scurried off the plane:

Back over St. Catharines, the Grape and Wine parade was underway:

Montebello Park was set up for the concerts and other schtuff:

I’m lucky as I live downtown and get to hear all of the concerts going on at the park.  If the wind is just right, it sounds like they are just across the street.  Sweet!

Speaking of sweet, I was eating Jello with Cool Whip the other night and Abby decided she wanted to partake.  Here’s my view:

She was one happy kittah!

Tim Hortons just had their Smile Cookie fundraiser.  You can buy yummola smile cookies and all of the money goes to a charity in the region.  Mike kindly bought us some cookies to nom one night.  My first one was picture perfect:

Not too sure what happened with the second one:

Rather sad, but I guess we all have our flaws.

My little mother came to visit me this morning and the first thing we did was hit Timmies.  Since it was the final day for the Smile Cookie fundraiser, we figured we would make a contribution to a good cause:

After that, we hit Giant Tiger then back to my apartment.  Soon after she left, I headed back to the airport.  I took up a co-worker’s father for a flight.  It was a gift from her for his birthday.  He said he wanted to try some aerobatics so I demonstrated a loop and roll.  After that, we headed over the Falls then just around St. Catharines.  My favourite part of flying is taking people up and giving them a memorable experience!

Today’s symptoms: I feel so much better today than I did most of last week.  I had some severe fatigue, tons o’pain and generally felt flu-like.  So glad it’s over with.

Amazing Camping Trip

Mike and I went camping to Long Point Provincial Park from Thursday until today.  My little mother was kind enough to lend us her car, as it has much more room than Mike’s or mine.  She named it The Dude:

I stopped in at Mike’s, we loaded The Dude up and hit the road.  Less than two hours later, we arrived in Long Point.

First thing first, set up the main sleeping tent and dining shelter:

Our site was probably one of the best in the whole camp ground.  We were at the far end of the park with only one other site next to us and no one across from us.  The lake was about a fifteen second walk away and the bathroom only a couple minutes.

We took quite a few long walks along the beach:

Donkay joined us:

Clearly he missed my cat, Mya.

I did something I couldn’t believe – I’m quite arachnophobic but mustered up the courage to touch this yucky fella:

Also touched a daddy long legs – I hate those things!  Some of the other critters we met along the way were this cute and interesting looking caterpillar:

Another cute caterpillar, who I rescued from the beach by the water and moved him up to a tree:

An adorable baby snapping turtle:

And the ultimate – a huge praying mantis on the beach.  Mike looked at me a little funny when I started poking at it.  You can imagine his expression when I said “I’m going to hang it off my head!”

I thought it made a lovely hair accessory!

On Friday, Mike and I went into the nearby town, Port Rowan.  Kinda ironic since his new niece is named Rowan.

We wanted to stop somewhere for lunch and passed by the Sunrise Cafe:

I had a BBQ chicken sandwich, Mike had a burger and we split an order of poutine:

We were blown away at the yumminess of the food.  Mike’s burger was super juicy, my sandwich was delicious and the gravy on the fries was out of this world.  We couldn’t believe it.  We decided then and there that we would be going here again before we left for home (we did so on Sunday!)   They also had amazing desserts.  We ended up getting six, including nanaimo bars, brownies and butter tarts.  The owner boxed them up for us and asked if we had a big family.  “Nope, they’re for us!”  Oink, oink!  They were happily eaten over the next two days.

The weather was horrible on Saturday – non-stop rain and high winds.  Unfortunately during the night, the dining shelter was hit hard and three poles broke.  We’re now on the hunt for replacement poles:

We spent the entire day in the main tent.  I wasn’t feeling well, so the storm happened on a good day.

Sunday was much better weather-wise so Mike and I went for another long walk on the beach.  For some reason, I decided to do a little planking:

I nicked my hand on a rusty bit of metal on the fence wire during this one.  Was quite glad my tetanus shot is up to date!

Of course, I had to plank The Dude:

My mother is proud to have such a normal daughter.

Sunday night, we started up a fire and I introduced Mike to “piggies”:

What a perfect night for a fire, as it was getting quite chilly, dropping down to 8 degrees overnight:

It was a bit of a downer getting up today, knowing we were going back home.  We had such a great time and are already planning on going back next year.  We want the same site and will probably go around the first week of September.  Can’t wait!

It was quite nice to see my kittahs when I got home.  I really missed them.  I’m so grateful for my little mother looking after them while I was gone.  Thanks again, Janski!

Today’s symptoms:  Needless to say I’m very tired today.  Totally worth it though.  One thing I was experiencing quite a bit over the weekend was spasms during the night.  Felt bad for Mike cause I think I woke him up a few times.  Either just a limb would go into a spasm and sometimes it was my whole body.  I’ll certainly be bringing this up to my neurologist when I go to see him in a couple weeks.

Last Week Continued

Carrying on from yesterday’s blog….On Friday, Mike and I drove to Hamilton for a Harbour Boat Cruise, arranged through my office.  There were about a dozen folks from the St. Catharines office there, and over 50 from Hamilton.  It was a tad cool out, so after checking out the top deck of the boat, we headed downstairs.  But first, I thought I would let Mike know that I sometimes get motion sickness:

Fortunately, since becoming an aerobatic pilot, the motion sickness doesn’t seem to be much of an issue anymore.

After everyone boarded, we headed out around the Hamilton Harbour:

We dined on some pizza, samosas, veggies, etc:

Quite yummy!  At one point, I decided to saunter up to the cockpit (errrr…..whatever you call it for a boat), and meet the captain and crew.  They were super nice, as was the view:

The cruise was two hours long, but fortunately, seemed even longer.  Chatting with my work peeps, we decided to go to a restaurant/bar in St. Catharines to celebrate one co-worker’s upcoming wedding.  Heading back through Hamilton, we followed behind a dude with a fridge in his pickup.  Probably should have secured the freezer door – duh!  We were just relieved it didn’t fly off and into our car!

Dork.

At the restaurant, I joined my coworkers on the dance floor for about three hours, while running back and forth to check on non-dancing Mike.  It was an awesome night.

On Saturday, Boo was being a little goober and wouldn’t come out to the kitchen for breakfast.  Ok, just because you’re so cute, you get breakkie in bed:

Speaking of naked spoiled kittahs, I picked up Abby’s medication last week.  I showed her the receipt and asked if she appreciates the expense.  She just sniffed it and walked away.  Good thing she’s so darn cute!

On Saturday night, we went to Mike’s sister and brother in law’s house to meet their newest addition, little Rowan.  I think this is only the second or third baby I’ve ever held.   She’s a cute little thing!

We had a really nice visit, as usual.

I took someone up for an aerobatic flight on Sunday morning.  Her husband was the top bidder at a charity auction I had donated the flight to.  He gave it to his wife.  She was really nice, great to talk to and truly enjoyed the flight.  I love making people scream as we go around a loop or roll!  It was such a blast.

I have another flight tomorrow night to Welland (less than a 10 minute flight!) for a COPA meeting and BBQ.  On Wednesday around 3:30, I get to take up another victim….errrr….I mean passenger for an aerobatic flight.  Sweet!

Today’s symptoms:  Actually felt pretty decent today.  Had a fairly bad headache though, but I’ll take something for it tonight and hopefully it will be gone in the morning.  Out, Out damn headache!  (A little Elizaspeare for ya!)

Lindsay Butter Tarts!

Had the last fly-in of the summer last weekend.  I flew Mike and I to Hawkfield, up near Orono (East of Oshawa).  As usual, the flight through Toronto was very scenic:

Hawkfield is a private grass strip:

Great turn out thus far!  Mind you, when there is free food (in this case, corn), there typically is a good turn out.

Coming in to land:

Was marshalled to a great parking spot, fairly close to the front.  I think we were moved up there to showcase Vyctor’s undeniable cuteness:

Got out and chatted with some other fellow pilots:

I had one person (I can’t remember if this is him or not) approach me and ask if my plane was for sale.  Sorry dude!

I filled out an information card for my plane and stuck it on my prop.  It should be no shock to anyone that I filled mine out a little differently than most:

We headed over to the hangar to mingle and have some free corn:

I ended up meeting quite a few really nice folks.  That’s one of the best things about these fly-ins – lots of fellow pilots and aviation enthusiasts to talk to.  One person I did speak to said that Lindsay Airport was less than 15 minutes away.  That is where Mike and I went earlier this summer and brought back a few dozen butter tarts.  Hmmmmm…..Would be kind of a waste to be so close and not go!  I phoned the restaurant at the airport and they got about four dozen tarts ready for our arrival.

Very scenic heading there:

Hark, the home of the best butter tarts ever, comes into sight:

We headed to the restaurant, picked up the tarts and loaded up the plane.  Before leaving, I had to fuel up.  Once done, we headed back to St. Catharines.  We passed this neat field on the way home:

Check out the awesome plane shadow near the bottom of the pic.

The Air Cadets were out with their gliders in St. Catharines:

It was awesome day.  Sad to know the fly-in season came to an end, but what an amazing season it was!

I have more to share about last week.  Stay tuned tomorrow as the saga continues!

Today’s symptoms:  Actually felt pretty good today.  Just dealing with some crushing pains in my forearms this evening, but that’s about it.  Fatigue level was average.

Project Completed

For some reason, I decided to paint the airplane light in my bedroom.  Not surprisingly, I wanted to paint it orange.  I have a can of paint from my plane, so that’s what I used.  I estimated it would only take a couple hours, but it took closer to eight.  Totally worth it though.  Here’s the before:

And after:

Sweet!  It’s a mini Vyctor!

Back in 2010, I won a $50 gift certificate for the Fallsview Keg.  Finally decided to put it to use.  Fortunately, no expiry date.  Mike and I headed there last night for our 5:00 reservation.  We had to wait a bit for a window seat, even though I requested one when I made the reservation.  Totally worth the wait.  The view was amazing:

As always at the Keg, the food was amazing too.  I got the filet mignon:

And Mike got the surf and turf:

And we accidentally ordered chocolate cake for dessert:

Awesome!  When we got home, I told Abby about everything we just feasted on.  Her reaction:

Yup, totally stunned (as usual).

Boo licked her chops when I mentioned steak:

I hear ya, Boo!  Amazing noms!

Today’s symptoms:  Very bad pain day.  Crushing pain everywhere and a bad headache.  Survived though!  Kinda looking forward to going to bed tonight and waking up all bright eyed and bushy haired.

Kitty Photo Shoot

Got to see a couple good movies over the last week.  Needless to say, Mike and I have been looking forward to Disney’s Planes since it came out a few weeks ago.  We saw it and weren’t disappointed.  I love how the main character, Dusty:

…has a very similar paint colour and scheme to my Cessna 150 Aerobat:

We both loved the movie and will certainly be buying a copy when it comes out!

The other movie we saw was Elysium with Matt Damon – very good as well!  It was no longer playing here in Niagara so we went out to the theatre in Burlington.  Worth the drive.

The night we saw Elysium, we came back to my apartment and I decided to show Mike some of the outfits I bought for my kitties.  Not something I put them in for very long – just brief photo shoots.  Here’s a few pics from that night, which included some really cute hats my aunt made for the kittahs:

And of course, the infamous lobster outfit:

You can tell how enthused they all were!  Fortunately for them, it took less than a minute to get some good pics of each!

I put the Pinky lobster pic as my laptop wallpaper.  Mya wasn’t too impressed when she jumped up on it to check her email:

Little Pinky found the whole event to be a little too exhausting.  The next day, we found her out on the balcony:

Such a drama queen.

She wasn’t quite so relaxed when she was bathed last night.  Mya was the only one that didn’t need a bath.  The other three weren’t so lucky:

All survived and will be clean for another day.

Today’s symptoms: I seemed to have come down with something which started yesterday.  Feeling pretty lousy, but hopefully it won’t last too long.  As for my MS symptoms today, usual headache and aches and pains all over.  Nothing too major though!

Kittah Stash Unveiled….

Well that was an interesting couple hours.  I was at my boyfriend’s last night and his parents just got back from Europe.  They brought me back the most gorgeous earrings, decadent fudge and the cutest key chain ever!  At first I thought it was a shoe for my mother, since it’s about her size:

I had everything in a bag to bring home.  After work today, I took everything out and tidied up a bit.  I almost died when I couldn’t find my shoe!  I literally spent hours tearing my whole apartment apart.  Mike was searching at home too.  I eventually looked behind the cat cubby next to the couch and I found Boo’s stash.  Holy Moses, smell the roses!  Check this out:

My little orange shoe!!!  I’m so happy!  Mind you, I realize now that my kittah has an issue.  Too bad the show Hoarders is no longer on – I have the perfect candidate for an episode!

The face of innocence?  I think not…

Anyway, back to the dinner at Mike’s.  As usual, his cats were being typical goobers.  Here’s little Sammy:

And of course, Coco, who loves to stare:

Little cuties.  The dinner his mom made was amazing (as her meals always are).  She made chocolate cake from scratch too:

Certainly went home with a full belly and a smile on my face.

Had my Tysabri infusion last week.  I met up with someone that was there in July, also getting her joyous infusion.  She said she watches me fly over the Walk for MS every year in Welland.  They have the largest team in Niagara:

Loved her tattoo:

Got to see this familiar plane on her iPad:

Sweet!!  So nice to meet her – hope to see her again next month!  Hoping she’ll join me for a flight some day too!

Mike and I went to a restaurant that I’ve wanted to go to for years now.  There is a Cora’s in Niagara Falls and St. Catharines.  I love fruit – this place is infamous for their amazing fruit creations.  Here are my breakfast noms:

And Mike’s:

Wow, the food was amazing.  I wouldn’t even hesitate to go back there again.  It was a huge breakkie but so healthy!

Today’s symptoms: Typical fatigue that kicked in around noon and steadily progressed.  Made it through the whole day at work though.  Just dealing with a bad headache, but that’s about it on the pain front today.  Yea!

Amazing Product

My aunt saw something really cool on TV.  I think she knows how anal I am about cleaning my windows.  I can’t stand streaks and will literally spend hours cleaning them so they are streak-free.  Well, I no longer have to worry about that.  Introducing the Karcher Window Vac.  I checked out the reviews and they are great!  Still, I was a tad skeptical – those people just aren’t as particular about window cleaning as I am.  My mother and my aunt went over to Canadian Tire last week and asked if the new window vac had come in yet.  They said they were just unloading them at that time.  That brought one out for them:

I spritzed a window with Windex and put the vacuum to it.  Was I really seeing what I was seeing?  The window was perfectly clean and NO streaks!  I figured the lighting was just bad and I would try it again and see all of the streaks the next day.  Well, in full sunlight, the window was perfect.  The window vac is amazing – it actually took longer to put all of my windows back in the tracks than it did to clean them!  Thanks Jan and Syd!

Boo was pretty underwhelmed with my great news about my clean windows.  She just flopped on her back next to me, and proceeded to gnaw on her tail in this rather lewd pose:

Mike and I had a good weekend.  On Saturday, we flew the grueling nine minutes to Welland for a COPA breakfast.  About twenty planes flew in plus quite a few drove in.  Great attendance and a yummola breakkie.  The skydive club is now at the Welland Airport, so we all got to watch bodies tumble from the sky.

Kinda cool.  I did four jumps back when I was in the Army – quite fun!

After we flew back, I dropped Mike off and he set up the tripod and camera to video me doing some aerobatics.  They turned out pretty well but we need to tweak a few things.

On Sunday, Mike and I walked downtown and attended Buskerfest.  We stopped at Tim Hortons first where we could watch one of the performers:

He was on an insanely tall unicycle, spinning whips around that were lit on fire.  Crazy!

I saw something behind Mike that I knew was going to cause the biggest grin ever.  He LOVES cheesecake and the stand out front of Timmies had deep fried cheesecake.  Mike said he was going to get a donut and I said he might want to reconsider.  I then pointed out the sign behind him with the cheesecake.  Yup, game over!

We were both shocked at the size of the piece of cheesecake they dunked into the fryer – it was a full-sized piece!

I’m not a big cheesecake fan, but this was pretty good.  I had a couple little nibbles.  Slurp!

It was a really good weekend.  I have more flights planned next weekend, plus Mike and I will be flying out to a private runway near Fort Erie in two days for a monthly gathering.

Today’s symptoms:  After how fatigued I was yesterday, I was actually quite surprised how much better my energy was today.  Had really bad spasms in my calves though.  Bad timing – I walked all the way home from work and realized I forgot my keys.  Had to walk all the way back to work and home again.  Didn’t feel too good but it was good exercise!

Weekend Continued

Continuing with yesterday’s blog…..

We had a great day in Edenvale on Saturday.  I had more flying to do on Sunday.  I took up someone for an aerobatic flight at 10:00.  He loved it!  I’m sure he’s going to love the video I took from my wing strut camera too.  Mike met me at the airport after the flight and after fueling the plane, we headed to Tillsonburg to meet up with a couple pilot friends.  They both flew in separately.  Here’s Donkay and I as we were in the circuit to land:

We were the first of the three planes in our party to land, as we left St. Catharines first:

Soon after we parked, in came plane number two:

While number three flew overhead the field:

A Harvard headed out to the runway to take off:

We had a great meal at the cafe in the terminal building – they always have good noms there.  After partaking in good food and conversation, we headed back out to our planes:

It was a nice flight back to St. Catharines.  That was my third flight (well, technically fifth flight, since twice I had to fly there and back) in two days and I had another one planned for the next day.  Mind you, it was just to Welland for our monthly RAA meeting.  The weather was decent, although a little windy.  I was surprised that I was the only one to fly in that day:

Some yummy hot dogs were made:

About 28 of us showed up.  Everyone had a good chat.  Unfortunately, I had to leave before 8:00pm so I could get my plane back in the hangar before the St. Catharines Flying Club closed up for the night.

The next day, I woke up to this rather amusing scene:

Yup, a line of naked cats in my bed.  What could possibly be better?  Life is good!

Today’s symptoms:  Felt pretty good today.  My energy level was better than yesterday, although I had some pretty intense MS related pains in my forearms.  I’ve decided I’m not going to have any tomorrow.  Sounds like a plan, eh?
