Elizasick

I haven’t had the greatest week.  I mentioned in my last blog that I had the bladder Botox procedure done.  For the past two months, I’ve had three bladder infections so I’m starting to think that the hospital should have waited to do the Botox procedure.  I had a couple of scares – let’s just say there was A LOT of blood involved.  I phoned the urologist when it happened on Thursday morning and they sent me to the lab for a test.  I still haven’t heard back from them which is a little disheartening.  The last time it happened was around 3:00am on Saturday morning.  I crawled back in bed and thought for over thirty minutes as to whether I should go to the clinic when it opened at 10:00 or head over to the hospital.  I decided on the hospital and then I had to decide whether to call Mike to take me or if I should just go myself.  I figured since I was able to drive myself and didn’t want to ruin his day due to lack of sleep, that I wouldn’t call him.  Since I would be there around 4:00 in the morning, I thought I would be back home by 8:00.  Well, not quite.  Around 9:00, I really started to get bored.  I acquired a glove and made Donkay look like a peacock:

I didn’t get out of there until around 10:30.  I was told that I have a bladder infection.  Not too surprising.  I have a lot of pain in my lower back so I’m pretty sure the infection has also gone into my kidneys.  I’m not sure if the antibiotic they gave me is also for kidney infections – I’m kinda hoping my urologist gets back to me soon.  I’ve learned over the years that when a doctor or hospital tells you that they will call you with the results, you typically need to follow-up yourself.I spent the weekend in my apartment with my kittahs and Mike, just chilling.  Mike and I both learned that we need to keep an eye on our phones around here.  First Boo got hold of one and took a selfie:

Abby soon followed suit:

No Abby, you really need to look into the camera for a selfie.  Try again:

That’s better although a smile would be nice.  Geesh.

The kitties have been reading our emails too.  And, to top it off, they started creating their own memes.  Here’s Boo’s first:

Pinky is really big on butt rubs, so she sent Mike a meme to kinda hint that she wanted one:

This next picture shows the meme worked:

On Sunday, I noticed the two stubborn pusses in the bedroom.  As sweet and tiny as Mya is, she can be a bit of a bully.  If another kitty has been sitting in a spot for a while and made it all nice and warm, Mya will basically stand on them until they get up and leave, so she can take the spot.  If they don’t move in time, she’ll nip at them.  Well, I think she attempted to do this to Pinky, but she held her ground.  It would have been a rather amusing interaction.  Pinky hates sleeping near any of the other cats, but tolerated Mya for over an hour:

As you can clearly see, little Pinky isn’t amused.

Mike and I had this amazing Chex snack while we were watching a movie.  Booser decided that she wanted to have a taste:

She wasn’t overly enthused.  Oh well, more for us!

I’m still feeling really crappy today.  I don’t feel any worse than yesterday though, so I guess the antibiotics are doing something useful.  I’ve been trying to drink lots of water to help flush everything out.  Thought it would be a good idea to clean my water bottle, so I used my awesome bottle cleaner.  Now there’s quality for ya:

Ugh.

Today’s symptoms:  I wish I could report that the bladder Botox was a big help with my frequency and urgency issues (common with us MS-ers), but I can’t tell with this lousy infection.  I’m feeling really weak and run down.  Hopefully these meds start clearing things up soon.

Botox

I might as well start off with the recent procedure I had done.  Most people probably haven’t heard of this use for Botox.  Due to MS, I have some bladder issues – urgency and frequency.  I’ve tried most of the medications out there to try and fix the problem, but nothing seems to work.  My neurologist suggested I try Botox injections into the bladder.  Okie dokie – I’ll try anything at this point!  There’s no one in the Niagara area doing this, so I was referred to a urologist in Hamilton at the Juravinski Hospital.  I had a cystocope done there last month and this past Thursday, I had the Botox injection.

I must say, the whole procedure wasn’t exactly fun.  They had to do a catheter, inject the freezing then the scope and Botox injections.  The injections themselves were a little painful but it was tolerable enough that if this works, I’d go through it again.I should know within a week if it was effective or not.  If so, I’ll have to get it done about every six months.  Even if it doesn’t work on me, I was able to save a little of the Botox and try it on Pinky.  Here’s the result – her back before:

After:

Yup, I have the smoothest Sphynx cat EVER!

Boo was shocked at the result:

Fortunately, my other kitties weren’t jealous and still looking rather cute themselves:

Abby looked shocked, but really wasn’t.  She always looks like this:

I thought Pinky would be a little more excited about the result, but she was kinda indifferent:

Mike and I were going to fly to Waterloo today for breakfast, but the runways in St. Catharines weren’t ploughed this morning.  Bummer.  Now we’re sitting watching Pushing Tin while eating some snackies from Bulk Barn.  This could be a good thing as I’m still feeling rather blah after my little procedure on Thursday.

Today’s symptoms:  Feeling ok, just a little sore.  I slept really well last night so that’s a huge bonus.  My fatigue level is decent, but my headache is a little worse than normal.

Breakfast In Style

Had a really great weekend.  Saturday, Mike and I went to visit my little mother.  On the way back home, we stopped at Reptile Kingdom on Highway 20.

This snake was massive and looked like he recently had a good meal:

Once back home, we walked over to a store downtown, including a used bookstore on Queen Street.  I’ve walked past it many times but for some reason, never went in.  I was shocked at the number of books.  They used every square inch of that building.

Then we headed over to The Works for some burgery awesomeness.  Mike got one called Getting Piggy With It:

Bacon is our friend.

Back home, the kitties were keeping content and warm on the heater behind my bed:

Abby wasn’t being too social, but still very cute:

The weather turned out pretty good on Sunday so I flew Mike and I to Tillsonburg for breakfast.  It was a little bit bumpy on the way there but the landing was quite interesting.  It was pretty much a full crosswind landing.  I haven’t had to fight that hard to land in a very long time.  Fortunately, it was a nice touch down – which was a relief when we noticed how many people were watching from the restaurant.  We parked Vyctor just outside the door and headed in for noms:

As usual, Donkay joined us on the flight:

It was a nice flight home, after which we bid Vyc farewell:

I hope to see him again soon.

Today’s symptoms:  After a lot of running around this weekend, I’m much more fatigued today than usual – totally worth it though!  Aches and pains are average.

Happy St. Patty’s Day

I hope everyone wore green today.  That’s about the extent of my celebratory efforts.  Don’t have any plans to go out partying.  Dealing with a third bladder infection in two months and the antibiotics (and I’m assuming the infection as well) are really wiping me out.  I’m glad I only have one more day of them.  I’ve decided that this is the last bladder infection I’m going to get for the rest of the year!  Whoot!

On Thursday, Mike and I went to the huge box sale at the Book Outlet.  I typically go each year and never have any trouble filling a box.  I didn’t want to get too many this time as I still have tons to read.  Mike and I just split a box between us.  We were there right for when it opened at 9:00 and it was pretty much packed within an hour:

Yesterday was Mike’s birthday so we went over to his parents’ house for dinner.  We gave his sister and brother-in-law this wonderful book that we saw at the book sale.  As you can imagine, they were thrilled:

It was nice to see everyone – the two-legged and four-legged types.  As usual, Coco stared at me while I was sitting on the couch:

And Blue hinted that I turn on the tap for him in the bathroom:

His cats are weird.  I’m glad that mine are totally normal:

Man, I love my four little freaks!

Today’s symptoms:  Really wiped out and just feeling very blah.  I’m going to make sure I get to bed early tonight so I have at least some chance of feeling better tomorrow.  Mind you, that doesn’t mean I’ll actually sleep well.

Women In Aviation – Waterloo

I was really hoping the weather was going to be decent on Tuesday, so I could fly to the Women in Aviation event I was asked to be part of at the Waterloo Airport.  Unfortunately, it didn’t happen.  I got there after about two hours of driving.  It would have been a little sooner but my GPS kinda led me astray!Once there, I recognized a few people I met at the event last year, when I took three girls up for their first flight.  I was the only one there that wasn’t in an aviation-related career.

We were part of a talk show, in which the host asked each of us questions, then we had questions from the audience for the second half.  I think there were around 30 people in the audience.  It was really inspiring to listen to what the women next to me did for a living, including an air traffic controller, Air Canada pilot and Mission System Engineer.  Needless to say, I was just a tad envious.  I’m certainly not in the career I dreamed of and went to university for four years, plus a year of college, but I still have a great job and life is pretty darn good.  My hobby is kinda nice, too!I’m looking forward to getting a copy of the video of the event.  I’ll post in in my video section once I have it in my paws.

Keeping with the aviation theme – I was looking through an aviation magazine the other day and spotted a pic of my cute little plane, parked at the Gathering of the Classics in Edenvale event last summer.  Top row, second from the right:

It’s kinda hard to tell, as the picture is blurry, but Vyctor is by far the cutest plane there!

Speaking of cute planes, check out this amazing vase I found in Shopper’s Drug Mart the other day.  I went out and bought some flowers for it, and my little mother made this shnazzy arrangement:

When she sent the picture to me, I believe she wrote “God, you’re a dork!”  Yup!  Can’t argue with that one.

I just started the second book of a series I’m reading.  Really enjoyed the first book (Outlander), by Diana Gabaldon.  Mya is going to help me with book two:

Well, I thought she was going to read it with me, but she conked out when I told her I was going to read for a bit:

Meanwhile, Boo was raring to go:

I finally won something on Tim Hortons Roll Up the Rim:

I’ve only had four or five coffees since it started, so I can’t really complain.  Kinda wish it said I won the Corolla, but the coffee will be yummy.

Today’s symptoms: Really bad headache today, but my energy level was fairly decent.  The aches and pains were quite tolerable too.  Boo-yah!

Happy Abby

I recently had to put my youngest kitty on anti-depressants.  She’s a very skitty kitty and rarely wanted to be around people.  She also has an intestinal virus in which there is no cure, so that adds to her stress.  These anti-depressants have made such a huge difference.  The kitties often like to run out into the hall, except for Abby.  This was a total shocker the other day:

As usual though, she’s more than happy being snuggly with her sisters.  Like on this day that prevented me from making the bed:

You a little tired there, Boo?

It’s Roll Up The Rim time at Tim Hortons.  There’s an extra roll chance on each cup this year for their 50th anniversary.  The second spot is for a chance to win one of 10 Corollas.  I’ve been doing this in the shops just to mess with people’s minds:

I had to go to the St. Catharines hospital for my annual MRI today.  Fortunately the IV for the dye went quite well.  Just had an IV last Thursday too, for Tysabri:

Happily, that went quite well too.  Regardless, I’m kinda feeling like a pin cushion!

Mike was over this weekend – we watched some shows, played Call of Duty on the xBox, and dined on some amazing Velveeta yumminess.  Little Abby, being much less skitty, decided to join us.  I swear I taught her better than this:

Mya didn’t do much better when she stuck her head into Mike’s glass to have a drink of water:

Twits.

I’m really hoping for great weather tomorrow.  I was asked to be part of a “talk show” on Women in Aviation at the Waterloo Airport.  I would much rather be able to fly there than drive, so paws crossed for clear skies.

Today’s symptoms: Actually feeling decent today.  My bladder infection is gone, the sinus infection is quite a bit better and my cold has departed.  Life is good!

Yuckola Week

This certainly hasn’t been the best week I’ve ever had.  Although, Sunday was quite good!  I bought Ice Dog hockey tickets through work, so my little mother, Mike and I went to the game at 2:00.  It’s very convenient as the arena is walkable from my apartment.  Here’s the goalie getting taken down:

They did well the first period and I think it was most of the second as well, but then fell apart and ended up losing in the third.  On a bright note, we got to watch the little kids play after each period:

They were so cute!  Especially as a bunch of them fell while they were skating along.

I didn’t do too much Sunday evening as I was starting to feel rather poorly.  It seemed like I was getting yet another bladder infection – less than a month after my last one.  I went to the walk-in clinic on Monday and got some more antibiotics.  Yippee.  This meant I had to cancel my Tysabri infusion for today (mini happy dance!).

While at home, vegging on the couch, little Abby watched over me:

She’s all droopy.  Tee hee!

That night while I was laying in bed, watching TV with the lights out, I looked over and saw this adorable scene between Boo and Mya:

Mya tolerated the licking for about a minute, and then “politely” told Boo to bugger off.

Today my mother, aunt and I went to the Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton for my cystoscope (bladder scope) appointment.  The best part was that I got to wear this sexy ensemble:

Really glad it’s over with.  Feeling rather drained mentally and physically after it.  The fact that I have a bladder infection, sinus infection and am getting a cold is making it a little difficult to deal with things.  Still trying to be positive and happy though!

Today’s symptoms: Energy was decent, but just feeling really lousy.  Not sure how much is the infections and which is MS symptoms.  Really looking forward to going to bed tonight!

Flightacular

How convenient – the weather was great today and I had the day off.  I asked my friend at the airport yesterday if he could plug Vyctor in and get him all ready for a flight today:

The first part of my flight consisted of going up over the airport and doing some aerobatics:

As usual, my horizon indicator went all wonky with the different attitudes:

After a bunch of maneuvers, I flew over Niagara Falls, which I haven’t done in quite a few months.  It looked amazing:

Great flight – until the next time, Vyctor!

When I got home, little Abby was keeping my spot warm on the couch:

I moved her over and put her on my lap, then she got extra googly:

Meanwhile, Mya and Pinky hung out in the bathroom:

Today’s symptoms: Felt pretty good.  As usual, the flight completely wiped me out.  I’m going to spend the rest of the evening chilling and reading a book.

Wow, Some Weird Stuff

I think I mentioned in my last blog that I had two laptops crash, so I had to buy a new one.  Some pics are in order of the final moments of their lives:

Farewell, my friends!  We had some good times together – good times.  So, I of course had to switch over to Windows 8 which I’m getting used to.  At least there is a way to put it back to the look of Windows 7.  Much more tolerable.

Carrying on with some wackiness, Boo is nuts.  She has to carry her toys around everywhere and drop them off at random places.  Here was the other morning:

I’m sure the other kittahs were really impressed.  However, speaking of putting things in weird places….I have this weird thing where I hate it when there is someone else’s bum warmth on my chair.  I mistakenly said this to a co-worker, who for years now has been sitting in my chair if he walks by and sees that I have stepped away from my desk for a minute.  I moved to a different part of the office from him, but he has managed to track me down.  I got up briefly last week and when I came back to my desk, a neighbour co-worker said that Rob recently came by and made sure that my chair was extra hot for when I came back.  Ugh!  I felt so filthy and soiled!  Less than an hour later, I had to get up and go to the washroom.  I wasn’t going to allow him to corrupt my chair again, so I brought it with me:

Needless to say, I had a few questions from coworkers who were already in there, but I explained the situation and they were totally supportive.

Back to the kittahs, there was this cute fight scene between Pinky and Boo:

Congrats, Boo.  Dorks.

In other joyous news, I have been watching the odd event in the Olympics.  Such a rush – the first medal ceremony that Canada placed in (and of course, there have been many since then):

I get goose bumps whenever I hear we’ve won another medal.  Just a tad patriotic.

I’m happy to report that our weather is finally getting a bit better.  I’m off Thursday so I’m hoping to go for a flight.  I wasn’t able to fly this previous weekend.  On Saturday, Mike and I went shopping in Burlington, then came home and ordered this enormous batch of poutine.  It’s from a food truck about a block away from my apartment:

We made the ultimate sacrifice and managed to nom the entire thing.  Burp.

Sunday, we went to the birthday party of one of our Recreational Aircraft Association members.  He turned 90, however, he looks and acts like he’s in his 70′s.  This is what I wrote in his card:

Today’s symptoms: Had some serious fatigue issues – went home from work a bit early and soon after my work day was done at 4:00, I fell asleep on my couch.  Had some really bad aches and pains today too, but tomorrow is going to be much better.

Early Valentine’s Day

Mike and I had a great day yesterday. I decided to give him an early Valentine’s Day present.  I had a couple places in mind where I wanted to take him but I didn’t want to tell him where we were going.  Place number one was an alpaca farm in Pelham.  I had been to one years ago and it was a rather enjoyable experience.  They are just so darn cute.  With him still not knowing where we were going, we headed out to one in St. Catharines. I drove up to the place but couldn’t see any alpacas.  I had another farm in mind, so I was going to take him to place number two first before heading out to the second alpaca farm. Mike loves pancakes so I decided to take him to White Meadows Farms for breakfast. Neither of us had ever been there before.  We had a great meal in a great atmosphere.

What I didn’t mention earlier is that Mike was really nervous about where we were going.  I guess some of the hints I gave him didn’t really help. Knowing none of this would ever happen, I told him that he could get maimed and hoped he had a good health plan. He was thinking we were going to go cliff diving or something.  After our awesome breakfast, we headed out to the second alpaca farm. It was the one I’d been to two years ago – Moore House Alpaca Farm.  As soon as we came around the corner, there were all the cute little alpacas. Mike was a little surprised that I pulled right into the driveway of the house.  We stood at the fence for a couple minutes looking at the alpacas in the distance.

The owner of the house and farm then came outside.  I asked him if it was okay that we were there and he said absolutely.  He then took us further into the enclosure so we were right up close to the alpacas.  Check out these great pics:

The two blondes:

He was so nice – he stood and talked to us about the alpacas for about ten minutes.  We learned so much.  I’m definitely going to tell a couple of my knitting and crocheting friends where they can get awesome alpaca wool.  The owner coming out and talking to us like that made the experience totally perfect.  We are both so grateful.

Once back home, we continued trying to fix my laptop which broke a couple days ago.

I was really, really tired so I took a little nap:

The weather doesn’t seem too good to fly this weekend. On a bright note, I was able to go up for about an hour and a half on Thursday.  It was the first time I did aerobatics in almost two months. I didn’t think my stomach would handle going for too long but I did aerobatics for almost half an hour.

As usual, my blog wouldn’t be a blog without cute little kitty pictures.  Boo and I held paws:

Abby was googly (as usual):

Pinky is looking lovely and pleasant (for a change):

Mya was warming her paws on the heater:

And Boo was sporting this lovely new look:

I seem to be having a bit of an issue today.  Everything involving technology + moi is going horribly wrong.  My little mother brought my old laptop up to my apartment, while we continued to try and fix my other one.  It was working fine before but now it’s in the same state as the other broken one.  I don’t get it.  Also, Mike and I were out shopping and when we got back into my car, it wouldn’t start and showed my electronic key wasn’t present.  Hello – I just changed the battery and the key was in my pocket.  I’m doing this blog on Mike’s laptop right now and we’re just waiting for it to start smoking….

Today’s symptoms:  Pretty bad headache today but I’m pretty sure that it has to do with not getting too much sleep last night.  My fatigue level is a little less than average, so I’m going to focus on that positive.

Could It Get Any Colder???

The rotten weather is still here.  I started to go into flight withdrawal last week so despite the high winds and freezing cold, I headed out to the airport for a flight.  I hummed and hawed once I got there, as the blowing snow didn’t provide very good visibility.  Regardless, I decided to do a few circuits.  After my first take off, I hit circuit altitude of 1300′ before I was over the end of the runway!  The headwind was so strong.  Within a couple minutes, I was around the circuit and ready to land.  Wow, that was….well….fun-ish.  I throttled up and took off again.  By the time I came around for the second landing, the tower gave me the updated winds and they had increased by two knots!  After another “joyous” landing, I decided that was enough.  Back to the hangar I went.  That was one of the shortest flights of my life.  As you can see by this pic, no one else was flying:

That one plane is being pushed back into the hangar – not coming out to play.

Another great reason I went to the airport was to be reunited with Donkay.  Yes, I’m a horrible person – I left him in my plane after my last flight.  Please don’t call FADS (Family and Donkey Services) on me!  Fortunately, my good friend at the airport took him out of my plane and into the warmth of the Flying Club.  This is Donkay meeting the Club cat:

After my flight, my friend Mike, Donkay and myself went for a coffee to warm up at Tim Hortons:

Slurp.

I told Abby about my flight and she shivered at the thought and desperately tried to release herself from my grasp:

Boo on the other paw had her little mouth hanging open as she slept next to us:

Despite the cold, Mike and I decided to wander over to the Market on Friday night to enjoy the Winterfest thing going on there.

There was food and wine to purchase, plus a pretty good live band:

Mike and I sat at a table and had some pizza and a glass of wine.  A few folks joined us.  I was a tad speechless when I heard the woman next to me say she hates vodka.  If I wasn’t still frozen, there probably would have been a little tear trickle down my cheek.  I eventually said something and asked if she really meant that.  It turned out to be a nice chat with a really friendly group of folks.  While I was still blabbing, Mike brought us a piece of sticky toffee pudding.  I don’t think either of us ever had it before.  It was much larger than I thought it was going to be:

Nom nom nom….it was VERY good.  I’m really glad we attended this event.

This weekend, I started to back up some of my old files and stuff that I’ve had on CD’s and DVD’s since I was in university to present.  Wow:

Mike helped me to get all of the other files (tons of them – about 250G off of my now dead external hard drive.  Words of Lizdom: never trust an external hard drive for your really important stuff!  I’m so glad I had a lot of it on DVD’s, as we didn’t think the files on the drive were going to be savable.  I always used to back up my pics and important documents on a few DVD’s and put them in our safety deposit box at the bank.  Silly me hasn’t done that for years.  Needless to say, I’ll be visiting that nice little box at the bank very soon!  Fortunately, Mike was able to extract my files off of the hard drive using his Linux system.  I’ve since bought a 32GB flash drive and put everything on there.  Plus I’m going to create some DVD’s of the most important stuff soon.  Continuing with my Words of Lizdom: Always back up your cherished pictures and documents on a non-mechanical device like a DVD or flash drive, and make extra copies!

So that’s my excitement for the week.  Abby had a thrill of her own when I told her Donkay was back.  She yelled like a little school kitty:

Now they’re sitting pretty:

Today’s symptoms:  I actually had a really good day until later in the afternoon.  Just around 4:00ish, it felt like I was run over by a bus.  The fatigue was really bad, pain everywhere and I just felt altogether lousy.  It’s probably still this bladder and kidney infection, which does seem a lot better than a few days ago. I can’t seem to get warm, either.  Hmph.

Crazy Kittahs

Was hoping I could post some nice flight pics but the weather really isn’t cooperating at all.  I’ll just show these great kittah pics instead. My youngest kitty, Abby, has a chronic intestinal infection, which she has been dealing with since she was a kitten.  She’s a very skitty kitty plus she never seems to feel well, so that doesn’t make her the most social.  The awesome vets at Court Animal Hospital here in St. Catharines, have done so much research into Abby’s rare condition and have tried so many different medications.  I thought what possibly made her condition worse was how anxious she is.  We ended up putting her on a very low dose of an anti-depressant.  Wow, what a difference.  She’s out on my lap when I’m on the couch pretty much every night.  She just looks and acts so much happier and less stressed.  Here she is sleeping on my arm:

I felt bad when I had to get up to go to the bathroom so I tried to recreate my arm for her:

It worked and she didn’t even run away when I came back and sat down.  I’m so happy to see her like this.Needless to say, the other three are all their weird selves.  Boo was in launch mode here:

And Mya decided to look out the window:

Pinky is the lump under her blanket on my bed:

I’m still dealing with insomnia issues.  This is the time that I typically wake up each morning and it takes me hours to get back to sleep:

I can’t believe last week was time for my monthly Tysabri IV infusion.  Time sure flies!  As usual, Mike goes with me.  I was showing him the shopping list on my cell phone when he snapped this dorky photo:

We did something a little weird that night.  We really didn’t feel like going to sleep, even though it was getting late.  I decided I really wanted to play Jenga, even though I don’t technically own that game.  Fortunately, the flooring in my dining room has some loose pieces that were perfect:

Yup, we’re a tad bit weird.  We always have fun, though!Last weekend, we went to his nephew’s birthday party.  He turned three.  As usual, his mother made an amazing birthday cake.  She’s so talented:

It was very yummy, too! When we got back to my place, three of the four freaks were waiting for us:

Pinky came out and joined everyone (although not up on my laptop), right after I took that pic.In other news, I had a little laugh when I noticed this broken jar of beets while walking home from work.  I really hate to see food wasted, but considering how much both Mike and I hate beets, I wasn’t too upset:

There were four people behind me, who saw me take the pic.  I felt like a bit of a dork.  Mind you, now I’m a dork for posting a broken jar of beets on my blog. And in conclusion, here’s a picture of cute little Mya, beautifully decorated with my hair scrunchies:

Today’s symptoms:  Not feeling too good as I have a bad bladder infection that is going up into my kidneys.  Went to the clinic and was prescribed some meds, so will hopefully feel much better soon.  I’m wondering if this infection working on me might have contributed to my insomnia over the last week or so.  Hmmmmmm……  Dealing with a really bad headache today too.

I’m A Slacker

I had planned on doing a blog last night but completely forgot. Wasn’t feeling well so we’ll blame it on that.

Had an interesting experience on Saturday night. Mike and I went to visit his sister and family in Stoney Creek. We decided to pick up noms for everyone at the Five Guys restaurant that just opened on Centennial Parkway. There was a guy and his kids behind us in line. While Mike was ordering, he tapped me on the arm and asked if I did a blog. At first I thought he asked if I was blonde. I felt like saying “Duh!”  Then I thought I was going to have to try and convince him that this is my natural hair colour. I asked him to repeat himself and that’s when I realized he said “blog.”  He said his mother is a loyal follower of my blog and that he himself had just seen it with her last week. Small world, eh? His wife took a pic of us and sent it to his mother:

He said that she has seen me in Tim Hortons a few times but has never introduced herself. I’m hoping she does the next time she sees me as I would love to meet her. After that nice meeting, we headed over to Mike’s sister’s house. We had good food and a great chat. When it was time to take the two boys to bed, Chelsea asked us to watch their four month old daughter while she slept on the couch. Big mistake! Chelsea wasn’t half way up the stairs before I started grabbing props. This is the end result:

Love the hair:

Chelsea’s face when she walked into the room was quite priceless. Mind you, knowing Mike and I, she wasn’t overly surprised.

Mike and I watched the second Hobbit movie last week. It was quite good. While he was sipping away on his glass of water, Mya decided she would like a drink too:

How can you get mad at a face like this?

So naughty. Also last week, I had to go to a meeting in Hamilton for the Employee Assistance Program. The two other Referral Agents and I joined up with the RA’s in Hamilton, as our offices have basically amalgamated. It was a very productive m

eeting and I was also able to give a little demonstration on OneNote to the group. At the end, we were presented with this awesome and very yummy cake:

Coming home from that meeting, I had this adorable surprise in my bed:

Pinky was being a little anti-social that day.

Not sure which day it was last week, but I heard sirens stop by.  Yet another large fire nearby:

This is the third large fire I’ve seen from my apartment over the last three years:

Hopefully that was the last one for a long time.

I had an appointment with a urologist today at the Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton.  My neurologist suggested I see if I was a candidate for bladder botox, to lessen/stop the urgency and frequency issues I’ve been having.  This is a very common symptom of MS.  My mother and aunt joined me today.  I met the doctor’s student, followed by the doctor himself.  Both were very nice and I was very comfortable with both of them.  Kinda a good thing since I’m going back on February 20th to have my third cystoscope then hopefully the botox injections.  Paws crossed this works!

Today’s symptoms: Felt pretty good today except some really bad crushing pains in my hands.  My fatigue level was quite tolerable today, which is kinda nice.  Let’s hope for another good day tomorrow!

Well, I just got another item off my bucket list.  For some strange reason, I’ve wanted to do a Polar Bear Dip since I was a little kid.  Luck behold, there was one today in Chippawa (near Niagara Falls).  Yes, I’m a wee bit weird.  Mike and I arrived at the Chippawa Boat Launch Ramp to register around 11:00 this morning.  First, we stopped at Timmies for a nice, warm coffee:

Then over to Chippawa:

Nothing like showing up to an event, surrounded by fire and rescue trucks and personnel:

I raised almost $100 through folks at work, my mother, aunt and Mike.  The funds went to St. John Ambulance and Chippawa Public Docks.  Thanks, everyone!

This cute, shivering polar bear was standing next to the registration tables:

Here are some of our joyous rescuers (hopefully not needed):

The water rescue team got into position.  It was kinda good to see the water level:

I decided yesterday that my goal was just to go in up to my waist, then get the heck outta there.  For some reason, I changed my mind while I was standing with my fellow dippers, that I was going to put my head under.  Go big or go home.  Here’s the four of us, getting psyched to run forth and freeze:

Could I be any more pale?

Finally, our wave was given the signal to go.  Mike took a video, which I will be posting in my video section.  One of us females kept saying “Oh God, oh God….”  When my feet hit the water, it felt like blades going into them.  I have very sensitive skin, especially to extreme temperatures – just an MS thing.  I knew I had to keep going as I would never forgive myself for not going all the way.  I got in just past my waist then stuck my head in.  My hair kinda floated on the surface:

Wow, that hurt!  Kept smiling though:

Poor Mike told me after that he thought I tripped at first, as I said I wouldn’t be putting my head under.  Sorry!

Unfortunately (again, MS related), my leg muscles seized up and I had a hard time straightening up then walking forward.  Was able to force them to move, although I did grab onto the arm of the rescuer to help pull me up.  Then a cheerful wave to the crowd (gave me another second to get my legs working again):

Wow, that was crazy!  I went back to Mike and we headed over to the changing trailers.  One for females and one for males.  The only thing that really bothered me was a guy that walked into the female’s trailer.  He said he was getting his clothes from his wife who was in there. Not impressed, as were most of the other girls.  Anyway, after changing, the shivering really kicked in.  The pain in my hands and feet was really bad.

All of the polar bears were given free noms at the Boat House restaurant, just down the road.  I was quite happy to pose with a rye and diet Coke:

They had a great  DJ and entertainer there, Robert (I think he said Tanis, but I could be mistaken – my bad!)  Good times.  I had pizza and Mike ordered this awesome omelette:

So that was my joyous experience today!  Took about an hour to thaw, but totally worth it.

Today’s symptoms: Felt pretty good minus some pretty sharp pains in my hands.  Needless to say, I was very fatigued after my little dip today.  I’ll feel better after a good rest.

Welcome 2014!

I said goodbye to a great year (minus health issues) – hopefully 2014 will be just as good, if not better.  Mike and I had a quiet New Year’s Eve, stayed home to watch a movie and then some TV.  We sent a few pictures of my kitties to Mike’s father, who decided to art-erize some of the pics of Pinky (his favourite):

And this great Happy New Year one with Mya:

The only thing that bothered me a bit about this one is Pinky’s neck.  Kinda looks like she’s decapitated, rather than just a cute, floating head (I’m sure there’s a difference!)  I decided to fix it up:

Much better!

Since there’s really only one place open in the Niagara Region on New Years Day, we headed down to the Factory Outlets on Lundy’s Lane.  Our first stop was Timmy’s though.  Mike drooled a little when he noticed they got a couple new muffins, including this red velvet one:

Quite yummy!  Once we finished nomming, we headed over to the outlet mall.  We got there soon after it opened at noon, and the parking lot was already about half full.  We only spent a little over an hour and didn’t buy much at all, but it was a nice time.  Of course the best part was the chocolate store:

While leaving the outlets, I thought of Lapennaco’s Liquidation Centre, which was just around the corner.  It was open so we wandered around there for a bit.  I ended up getting two huge boxes of my Stevia sweetener (800 packets per box) for only $13 each.  Typically the 100 packet boxes are $7, so it was a sweet deal.  On the way back home from there, we noticed Target was open, so we headed there.  It was a rather productive day!

Looks like we’re having another spell of bad weather.  I’m glad I was able to get in one last flight for 2013 last Saturday.  I made fudge and brought some up to the tower at the St. Catharines airport and to the Flying Club.  My friend was working at the Flying Club in Welland that day, so I decided to make the arduous seven minute flight out there and drop some off to him:

I also met up with my mechanic and his son, so had a nice little chat with them.  Then it was back to Vyctor, although I really didn’t know where I was going to fly next.  On the way to my plane, I passed this sign:

Good to know!

Time for take off:

I decided to just fly around Niagara then over Lil Jan’s house.  I phoned her (blue tooth – hands free, no worries!) and she came outside to wave.  I think she’s really going to like this picture as her shadow makes her look really tall:

After that, I headed back to land at CYSN.  I decided to leave my Christmas decorations on my plane for a bit longer:

Until next year, little Vyctor:

Once back home, I figured it was time to take down my Christmas tree.  Fortunately, Mya helped tying the tree box together:

Meanwhile, Boo and Pinky just kept to themselves in the bedroom:

Little Abby didn’t come out until it was dinner time.  She sat on my lap while I ate:

So cute and googly.

Wow, I can’t believe it’s the end of the week already!  Sweet!

Today’s symptoms: Had a bad headache but my fatigue didn’t really start getting bad until a little later in the afternoon.  Can’t complain about that!

Christmas Rocked!

I just had one of the best Christmas’ ever!  Jan met me at the apartment after work around 4:45.  We lugged all of the pressies upstairs, did some organizing, then poured ourselves some drinks.  We typically have our turkey dinner on Christmas Day, but decided to do it Christmas Eve this year.  My mother always cooks a nice big meal, but this year we purchased individual turkey dinners from Antipastos, a restaurant and catering business here in St. Catharines.  They were frozen meals with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn and gravy.  We were shocked at how good everything was.  We wouldn’t hesitate to do the same thing again.

After noms, we decided to open a present each.  I already knew what one of mine was, since I ordered it online.  I’m so happy with how it turned out!

Jan opened her Samsung tablet I bought her.  I think she’s a little stressed about learning how to use it, but I tweaked it so it was fairly simple.

On Christmas morning, we both woke up fairly early.  Present opening started around 8:30 and didn’t finish until about 3:00!  We always go all out – it was so much fun!

The kitties enjoyed the treats Jan bought them:

They were all scampering around playing with ribbons too:

My friend at the airport did something awesome – he decorated Vyctor!

How cute is that????

I basically relaxed on Boxing Day.  I don’t think I left the apartment building.  Just got everything cleaned up and put away.

Had a great night last night.  My friend came over and we ordered a pizza and watched three movies, including the first in the Lord of the Rings series.  Loved it!  I think our night ended around 3:00am!  Fortunately for him, he didn’t have to go to work the next day.  Me on the other hand…. Actually, I didn’t do too bad today.  Kinda nodded off a few times later in the afternoon, but made it right through until 4:45.  He’s coming by again tomorrow and we’re going to watch the next movie in the series.  At least I won’t have to get up and go into work the next day!

Today’s symptoms: Really bad crushing pains in both hands today.  It literally feels like they’re being squeezed in a vice.  Not fun.  Still dealing with a headache, but it was more than tolerable today.  Looking forward to getting a good sleep tonight!

Christmas!

Had a great Christmas – can’t believe it’s over.  I was at work on Christmas Eve until 4:30, at which time Lil’ Jan picked me up.  We headed over to my place, got into our comfy clothes and opened a few pressies.  We then cooked our turkey dinners from Antipastos.  Delicious, as usual.  Jan made an awesome dessert which had Cool Whip.  Abby loves Cool Whip so she came running over as soon as she smelled it (how she can smell Cool Whip is beyond me).

I called the other kittahs for a little lick but no one rushed over.  Pinky wasn’t even remotely interested:

Just like last year, we watched Home Alone after dinner.  Love that movie.

On Christmas morning, everyone had the pleasure of opening pressies, including my four little freaks.  Their grandma even got them each a little stocking:

Even shy little Abby came out to investigate:

Every year I buy Pinky a new catnip rainbow, which is her favourite toy.  She was pretty excited to sniff it out:

Jan and I happily sipped Bailey’s while opening our presents from each other.  We were both quite happy with our newly acquired loot.  Check out this awesome shower curtain and bath mat Jan got me:

After cleaning up, we watched a few shows, finished off our meals from the night before, and Janski headed home before it got dark.  She got me quite a few new tops, so I decided I would get rid of some of my old ones that I haven’t worn in a while.  I filled a garbage bag, then started cleaning/sorting other areas of my apartment.  Well, it kinda turned into an obsession and I was cleaning non-stop from before 5:00 to 10:30pm!  I still can’t believe how much stuff I cleared out.  I threw out a good chunk of stuff plus have a few bags of things to donate.  Spring cleaning done!

Yesterday I walked into my bedroom yesterday and got a rare photo of all four kitties sitting fairly close together:

Could they be any cuter?  I think not!

Flipping back to Christmas – I forgot to mention this in a previous blog.  My mother was in Florida a couple weeks ago, so I went by her house every few days to check on it and water her plants.  I was rather surprised to see that she didn’t put her Christmas tree up this year, so Mike and I decided to do it for her.  Thought it would be rather amusing to put it up in the middle of her bedroom:

We then took this pic and had it put onto a Christmas ornament (through Wal-Mart photo centre):

Now the memory will live forever!

Today’s symptoms:  For the last few nights, I’ve been sleeping quite a bit better.  Feeling pretty good with the extra sleep, just still dealing with bad daily headaches.  My fatigue level has been a bit more tolerable than normal, which has been very nice!

Almost Christmas!

Didn’t have the greatest week and weekend, but it’s going to get better starting tomorrow (gosh darn it!)  A couple good things did happen though.  I gave Microsoft OneNote training to folks at my office on Monday, and in Hamilton on Tuesday.  Unfortunately, the weather was insane driving to Hamilton and the normally 40 minute drive took over an hour and a half.  However, once I got there and set up, everything was great.  Had a really nice class and I may be going back in the future to give more training.

On Thursday, I taught OneNote at our office again.  I was done at 12:45 that day and went for my Tysabri infusion.  Blah!  Never a truly enjoyable experience but it’s all good as the drug has done me well over the last few years.  I was tested for antibodies for the JC virus, which can lead to progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), which is a fatal brain infection.  I’ve been negative for this virus since starting Tysabri, however, I got a not so great call from the MS clinic in Hamilton last week, stating I am now positive.  The test is indexed and my reading was quite low, so I can still keep getting my monthly infusions.  I will be tested for it again in six months and we’ll see if the numbers have changed.  Paws crossed it doesn’t go up because I really don’t want to go off Tysabri.  Anyway, at this infusion, I had to have more blood work done.  I brought my own heating pad to warm up the spot before the dreaded needle.  Worked quite well and was cute!

After the infusion, Mike and I went over to Antipastos to pick up the turkey dinners my mother and I will be having on Christmas Eve.  Had them from there last year too – very good!  Soon after we got back to my place, my little mother arrived.  We were all going to Betty’s Restaurant in Niagara Falls for the MS Society’s Christmas dinner.  Jan was rather excited that there were other folks her size there:

It was really nice to see everyone from the MS Niagara Chapter of Hope.  What a great venue – I hadn’t been to Betty’s in years.  They are famous for their fish and chips and their awesome lemon meringue pie:

I didn’t have enough room so I gave mine to Jan to take home.  All three of us had a great evening.  We were also glad the weather held off for the drive home.  They called for freezing rain that evening and night.

On Friday, I started to feel pretty punk.  I thought it was more than just the effects of the Tysabri, but I wasn’t sure.  Just felt lousy all over.  I made it through the full day of work though.  Felt much worse on Saturday.  Mike and I had plans but I ended up spending the whole day on the couch or in bed.  He was nice enough to stop by with a coffee and croissant though:

The kitties kept me company, when they weren’t being naughty:

And the naughty, such as Mya trying to get in the bag of Christmas pressies my mother brought over:

Then Boo trying to get into the cabinet:

I decided to check out the bridge traffic for Saturday.  It was over an hour wait going into the States on the Queenston Bridge:

Ugh, glad I wasn’t anywhere near that!

For the last few nights, my insomnia has returned, which really hasn’t helped with how I’ve been feeling.  From last night (and this morning), I took a pic of my clock about 20 minutes after I woke up:

I very rarely ever update anything on Facebook, but I decided to put something on the news feed:

I then finished a totally awesome book (the second part to Pillars of The Earth, which I mentioned in previous blogs):

Then I played some games on my iPad, took another chunk of my sleeping pill, and fell asleep soon after this:

Needless to say, I’m a wee bit tired today!  I will feel better tomorrow though – I’m not going to feel this yucky for Christmas Eve and Day!

Today’s symptoms:  Tons of bone crushing pains all over and a really bad headache.  My sinuses are bothering me again too, but I think they feel a little better today than they did yesterday.  At least that’s what I’m going to keep telling myself.

Can’t Wait Till Christmas!

I’ve been having a great week!  Went out for lunch at work with a group of friends on Tuesday.  It was my first time to Toi, a Vietnamese restaurant quite close to our office.  All I can say is “wow”.  The food and service was amazing.  I had the crispy grilled chicken which was probably the best chicken I’ve ever had.

We all really enjoyed our lunch and would certainly go there again.  Actually, when I got home, I mentioned the great grub to my cats.  Two of them tried to make a run for it out of the apartment.  Fortunately, they weren’t tall enough to reach the elevator buttons.

My friend and I got together for lunch later in the week.  We didn’t actually go anywhere for food, but stopped at the consignment shop just down the block.  I had dropped off a really nice red dress that no longer fits me (I guess I shrank a tad).  We looked through the rack of dresses, but didn’t see it.  I was kinda hoping it was sold.  It wasn’t but it sure made a nice window display!:

Abby seems to have developed a fixation with TV’s.  This has been her the last couple of days:

Speaking of weird cats, I inadvertently left a plastic bag on the couch.  Pinky found it within seconds:

I had an awesome day yesterday.  Went out for dinner and a movie in Oakville.  After noms at Boston Pizza, we saw the Cirque de Soleil 3D movie.  It was amazing!  I think it was the first 3D movie I’ve seen since I was a kid.  I’ve seen Cirque live before and I was just as blown away with the screen version.  It’s a must-see.

I’m so relieved we had decent weather this morning.  I haven’t flown in about three weeks.  I headed over to the airport around 10:30.  As the fuel dude was fueling my plane, a group of about seven people wandered up on the observation deck.  There was at least one kid (can’t remember if I noticed more than one).  Before hopping in my plane, I walked over and asked if they wanted to see a little airshow.  They said yes so I headed up above the airport and did a bunch of loops, rolls, snap rolls, combos and spins.  I did a low and over before landing.  I wanted to speak with them and ask if they enjoyed the show before heading out for the rest of my flight.  They thought it was quite neat!  The one man had a huge zoom lens on his camera and said he took a bunch of pics – can’t wait to see them!

I headed back out and flew over my friend’s house which is currently being built.  It’s rather neat to see how it’s progressing.  There’s a roof now!

Back at home, I finished wrapping pressies (which I thought I was done already but apparently wasn’t).  Now I’m sitting here debating whether or not I want to work out on my exercise bike.  I’m kinda pooped so will likely just stay on my couch like a blonde blob.

After work tomorrow, Jan is coming over and we’re going to have a few drinks and eat our Christmas dinner.  She’s going to stay the night then we’ll spend most of Tuesday opening about 347 presents.  I can’t wait!

Today’s symptoms: I felt very good today.  Actually my fatigue level has been less than normal over the last few days.  Still have the headache, but it’s getting a bit better.  Also, still lots of sharp aches and pains in my hands and forearms, but they’re livable.

Busy, Busy!

Yup, I’m totally behind on my blog again.  I’ve been really busy over the last couple of weeks.  On my day off last Thursday, I decided to finish up the rest of my Christmas shopping.  I first had an appointment with my GP in Fonthill, after which I drove two minutes to my little mother’s house.  We visited for a bit (and ate some pie!) then I drove to the St. Catharines Airport.  There, I dropped off a gift basket for my aviation mechanic.  It was nice to see him, another friend and of course, Vyctor:

He’s so cute.  I really hope I can go for a flight soon – it’s been about three weeks since my last one!

After that visit, I drove over to my friend’s hangar to stick something (for her birthday) to her hangar door.  I left the airport, and drove to the States to pick up a package.  Thankfully with Nexus, there was no wait on the Whirlpool Bridge.  Back in Canada, I drove to the Fairview Mall and hit about half a dozen stores.  Then to Costco, Shopper’s Drug Mart, my local pharmacy, a book store, and a few more places.  It was about five hours of running around, but I got everything accomplished that I wanted to do.  I was totally poop-o-la when I got home, but it was a great feeling to have everything done.  When I arrived home (after making a couple trips from my car) I got all of my loot inside.  I asked Pinky what she thought of my fulfilling day and she just gave this odd little look:

My friend came over the next night and we ordered some food and wrapped pressies.  It’s kinda an annual tradition with us.  Here’s some of Jan’s gifts I wrapped:

This weekend was great.  Jan and I went over to Buffalo to pick up a shirt I ordered while we were in Rochester.  We ended up spending a few hours in the mall and made some sweet purchases.  That night, I went out to dinner then over to the nearby mall to pick up a few more things.

Yesterday was long overdue.  I went out to see a movie in Oakville.  I haven’t seen a movie in the theatre in over ten years!  We watched Flight with Denzel Washington.  We both really enjoyed it.  Afterwards, we went to Wild Wings next door and I had some great noms.  I haven’t had wings in around ten years.

Very good!  It was a great day and despite getting home after 10:00pm, I was still able to get up and start work at 7:15 and made it through the day.

Product warning: That new Sensodine toothpaste in the can has some issues.  I had been using it for a couple months, and it was getting down to the end.  The other morning I went to brush my teeth, only to find my toothpaste exploded:

Yuck!  How rude!

I’ve had an amazing week.  My spirits are high – life is awesome!

Today’s symptoms: Had a very good day today.  Fatigue level was much lower than normal, and only a few (although pretty intense) aches and pains in my hands.  I’ve still be dealing with a bad headache for the last few weeks.  I’ll be sure to mention it to my neurologist when I see him tomorrow.

Wedding!

No, not mine!  Mike and I went to the wedding of one of my coworkers on Saturday.   I was very lucky in that his mother French braided my hair, as it’s not something I’ve ever been able to do myself.  She did an amazing job:

It was a really nice ceremony followed by amazing food.  It was family style, which I really like for a wedding.  Then they had a photo shoot with props.  They took three pictures and you had about five seconds to change props and poses:

What a blast!  You could go back as many times as you wanted to.  It was an awesome night.  I’m so happy for the newly married couple!

I told Abby about our fun night and this was her response:

Nice – thanks for the enthusiasm.  Meanwhile, little Boo was getting rather snuggly with Donkay:

Kinda ironic since earlier in the day, she was chewing on the head of this innocent bear:

It’s the duality of Boo!

Meanwhile, one of Mike’s cats was being his typical, goofy, semi-clueless looking self:

I finally received my air to air photo done up in Barrie in October.  Turned out pretty nice:

I’m thinking of getting it printed on canvas for my wall.

I had to give OneNote training at work today and have to drive to Hamilton tomorrow to teach it there.  Kinda looking forward to it!  One more class on Thursday.

Today’s symptoms: Didn’t feel too bad.  Had some pretty bad muscle pains in my neck and back, plus yucky headache.  Fatigue level wasn’t too bad though!
