Pinktacular News!

Great news – little Pinky seems to have made a complete recovery and is her cute (and sometimes) snarly self again.  One of the first things she did when she was clearly feeling better was go out onto the balcony for some sun:

photo 12

Only for a few minutes though so she doesn’t get sun burned!  The next thing she wanted was a butt rub from Mike.  She got it:

photo 14

Meanwhile, the other three kitties watched from the the couch, thrilled about their sister’s recovery:

photo 13

I know – their enthusiasm is overwhelming.

Regarding this past weekend, the weather wasn’t good enough for a flight.  Fortunately, I had a chance to go on a great flight last week.  A member of the 99’s (female aviator group) came down for a visit from Germany.  I had the pleasure of taking her for a scenic flight around Niagara.  The weather wasn’t too good in the morning, so I didn’t think we would be able to make it over Niagara Falls (clouds were too low).  However, by the time 2:00 rolled around, everything lifted enough that we were able to head over the Falls.  She had just been there earlier that day, checking it out from the ground.  Kinda neat to see it from a different perspective!  She was such a pleasure to fly with – especially at the end when we did some aerobatics!  Great flight and and I hope to take her up again if she comes back for another visit:

photo 11

Back to the weekend, Mike and I visited my mother in the morning, then we went for a stroll around the quarry in Port Colborne in the afternoon.  He had never been there before.

photo 1

I used to go there quite a bit as a kid, to search for fossils.  We found a few this trip as well.  I just have to do some research on what exactly they are.  Good times:

photo 2

I couldn’t believe I had so much energy that day.  After the quarry, we went to the Seaway Mall in Welland to shop a bit then see the second Disney Planes movie.  It was really good, by the way!

I was a little surprised to see Mya when I got back home.  She always acted like she hated baths, but it’s obvious she takes them by herself when I’m not around.  I don’t even know where she got the robe from:

photo 4

I asked Abby if she knew, but she just looked stunned (as usual):

photo 15

I begged Mya to tell me where she got the robe but she just pointed and laughed:

photo 3

On a final note, I got a call from the walk-in clinic about an hour ago.  Apparently my urinalysis came back from the lab and the antibiotic the doctor put me on last week wasn’t the right one.  So, I’m on yet another one for the next week.  I guess it’s a good thing since the bladder infection isn’t getting much better.  Paws crossed this one works!  I think six bladder infections since January are enough, so I’m going to swear off of them for a while.

Today’s symptoms: After my long but awesome day yesterday, I was more fatigued today than “normal”.  The humidity made this worse.  I’m pretty sure I’ll feel better tomorrow after a good sleepy.

Sick Pinky :-(

Poor little Pinky hasn’t been feeling too well lately.  She has been sick to her stomach quite a bit over the last few days, with it getting fairly bad last night.  This morning, she was looking really pale and it was obvious she was dehydrated, as she couldn’t even keep down water.  Mike came over.  Then I phoned the vet at 8:00 this morning.  They said there were no vets in the office until the afternoon, so they referred me to the Veterinary Emergency Clinic.  Mike drove us down there to get little Pinky checked out.  The one technician was pretty excited to see a sphynx, since she just adopted one herself.  Her kitty is adorable, as you can see:

photo 3

She gathered some info on Pinky before the vet came in.  Pinky was not too happy at this point:

photo 1

Everyone was so great there – very nice to speak to, really made us feel at ease and were not pushy at all.  The vet suggested blood work and x-rays.  We decided on the blood work and would do the x-rays if anything came back abnormal.  I was relieved to hear that everything was looking good, just some slightly off levels due to her dehydration.  They gave her some fluids, a shot of anti-nausea medication and shot of prednisone.  Once that was done, we headed back home.  Pinky was very good in the car.  She actually appears just a tad googly in this picture:

photo 2

Once back home, Pinky wandered around a bit then headed back into the cat carrier.  I put a heating pad in there, plus covered it up a bit:  She stayed there all day:

photo 4

The other kitties came by once in a while to check on her:

photo 5

Since she hasn’t got up at all, I’ve been regularly bringing her a little water to drink:

photo11

I hope to see a big improvement in her tomorrow!

All the other freaks have been their typical selves – like googly Abby:

IMG_4117

And Boo trying to turn her head inside-out:

IMG_4153

Then there’s big (although very tiny) bully Mya who likes to stand on other kitties in order to take their warm spot:

IMG_4098

But gets really ticked off if the other kitty pushes her away:

IMG_4096

More Pinky updates to follow.  Paws crossed for a quick recovery!

Today’s symptoms: Seem to be getting over this latest bladder infection.  I think six in less than six months is more than enough and I’m not going to have another one for a long time.  Enough of this silliness!

Not-So-Great News

As you probably read in my previous blogs, I seem to be plagued with infections.  I just ended a round of antibiotics for my last bladder infection last week and within days of my last pill, it started again.  I phoned the MS clinic at McMaster and spoke to a nurse.  She suggested I phone my neurologist.  Our fear was that the infections were caused by my MS treatment (Tysabri).  I’ve been on it for over three years and it seems to be working well for me, minus the infections.  My neurologist suggested due to these chronic bladder and sinus infections, I should stop Tysabri for at least two months.  If the infections lessen or disappear (paws crossed!) over the next two months, then it was likely the Tysabri  that caused or at lease contributed to them.  I’m certainly not dissing the drug – it’s been a life-saver to so many people and I have had very few issues while on it over the years.  So, hearing this news from my neurologist was a little stressful.  Fortunately, there are a couple oral meds on the market that I can switch to, even though they are not quite as effective as Tysabri.  The next medication will be my fourth MS treatment.

On a brighter note, I was actually feeling pretty decent on Saturday.  That combined with the nice weather only meant one thing – flight!

I let my friend at the Flying Club know we were coming, and he got my plane all clean for us – so awesome!

IMG_4069

I flew Mike and I out to a fly-in BBQ at Huron Park Airport in Centralia.

IMG_4209

photo

As soon as we walked into the hangar, we were greeted by a really cute kid who offered us cake!  Best welcome ever!  Then a girl who appeared to be his older sister offered us our choice of beverage.  It was so nice!  We got our drinks and food and sat down to nom:

IMG_4071

After good food and chatting with some really nice folks, we headed out.

IMG_4221_0000

I was told by a friend that there were tall ships in the nearby town Bayfield.  It was only about a ten minute flight so we decided to head over and check them out.

IMG_4241

IMG_4244

It was a nice flight back to St. Catharines, passing some joyous windmills on the way:

IMG_4231

We also passed the water park just off the QEW near (or in) Grimsby:

IMG_4278

Then back to St. Catharines for a landing:

IMG_4280

It was a nice flight – I always love going to airports I’ve never been to before.

I mentioned in a previous blog (with photo) that Pinky is desperate to still lay on the cable box, which I tried to raise so the kitties couldn’t fit.  Yet again, she smushed herself on top of it – well, most of her:

IMG_4076

Weird!

Today’s symptoms: Feeling somewhat poopy dealing with yet another bladder infection and still the sinus infection.  Hopefully the antibiotics kick in very soon.  Also a little down for having to go off of my MS treatment, but we’ll figure out something that will work for moi!

Very Naughty Kitties

Since my kitties are hairless, they are always looking for warm spots to sleep.  They were laying on my cable receiver for the last year.  I’m always nervous one is going to be sick on it, so I figured out a way to keep them off – so I thought.  I have my audio receiver on the bottom, and over that is a wire shelf which holds my cable receiver.  How in the world naughty little Pinky ever got up on it in that configuration is completely beyond me:

002

Looks really comfy too!  What a dork.

Sticking with the naughty theme, my oldest sphynx is a five pound bully.  She’s also the sweetest cat I’ve ever known – most of the time. Whenever another kitty gets all snuggly and warms up a spot, Mya will sometime walk on them until they move and surrender their spot to her.  Sometimes she goes a little too far and bites them on the bum.  She was doing that to little Abby (who is bigger than her) while she was on the bed.  I Mya-proofed Abby by turning her into an Abburito:

003

Worked like a charm.  Mya just sat there and sulked for a few minutes, then found her own spot.

Third naughty kitty would be Boo.  I had a kitchen cupboard open for seconds while I turned my back:

IMG_3817

I had Mike sit down with her and give her a little talking to:

006

Looks like the only good cat was Abby.  Paws crossed it lasts.

We had some pretty decent storms over the last week.  I love being up on the tenth floor, facing both West and North.  The view is awesome:

008 (2)

You know what else is awesome?  My fish.  Check out little McMortimer:

IMG_3855

Hey Boo – don’t even think about it!

IMG_3885

I had the day off yesterday, and since I’m finally feeling better, I went over to my little mother’s house to help sort things in the basement.  Every time we clean it out, we get rid of a fair amount of stuff and can never imagine being able to get rid of much more in the future.  Well, yet another big pile cleared out yesterday.  Her basement is starting to look very bare.  One of the things I did come across (and toss) was this nifty drum I made in high school for a project:

IMG_3866

I have no idea why I painted it like that.  I even did the center portion with pipes, sewer system (with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), a subway and the flames of hell:

IMG_3867

Maybe my mother was right all these years – I think I am a tad weird.

This weekend, the plans are to fly Mike and I to a BBQ fly-in at the Huron Park Airport tomorrow.  Then maybe we’ll come back to my place and watch some movies or something.  Hopefully if we have a snack, Mike with think twice about getting crumbs all over himself like last time.  Thank goodness for vacuums:

IMG_3843

I thought I was going to need it again last night to suck up the body of the huge fly my cats were supposed to kill.  They were having too much fun playing with it though – it went on for almost an hour.  Poor fly must have been exhausted:

IMG_3892

It eventually made it out to the balcony so I sorta shushed it down the crack to the next floor.  I’m sure it flew away before it hit.

Today’s symptoms: FINALLY feeling better.  Yea!  I actually made it through a full day of work with not much more than my usual fatigue, a fairly bad headache and some minor aches and pains.  Life is good!

My Proud Mother

I wish I had more to report on this blog.  However, since I’ve been feeling rather lousy lately, I haven’t done too much.  I’ve been trying to fight this bladder infection the o’natural way, however it didn’t work.  I ended up going to the clinic on Friday and got a prescription for an antibiotic.  I was kinda hoping he would give me Cipro as it would treat both the sinus and bladder infections.  However, he gave me Macrobid which is only for bladder infections.  Oh well.  I’m surprised that it hasn’t helped too much yet.  I’m still really fatigued and tired and have been having to take one to two hour naps for the last few days.  At least the kitties were kind enough to keep me company, especially Abby who often sat on my shoulder and arm while I was laying down:

IMG_3725

And then there was Mya, who has started chewing on my hair some nights:

IMG_3716

Mike and I spent this past weekend just chilling and watching tv and movies, plus playing Call of Duty: Ghosts on xBox. He was also kind enough to help me hang my new shelves by my front door.  I have a small pewter fantasy character collection and have really been hoping to display it again.  These shelves I bought recently were perfect:

photo 1

I had a barometer thing hanging there before.  We tried to find a new place for it – needless to say, the first spot I found (stuck in my kitchen light) didn’t quite work:

photo 2

I figured other things around here look weird, so why not my decor?  Little Boo actually helps with decorating sometimes.  She likes to run around the apartment with her pipe cleaners.  I guess when she brings them near the dining room, the food distracts her so she drops them to eat.  Doesn’t typically remember to take them elsewhere after she noms:

IMG_3727

She’s so weird:

IMG_3697

This weekend, my friend from work had the back of her garage painted, which is totally visible from the trail behind their house.  It looks awesome:

photo 3

Jan and I had one of our typical conversations over text the other night.  I told her I was kinda excited to capture a short clip from a COPS episode that I liked.  Here was her response (I’m in green):

IMG_3651

Tee hee!

Just so you know, I added a few videos on my website video page.  One is of Mike and I zip lining when we went camping a few weeks ago.  The zip line in this video was close to the area where they do the initial training.  The guides told us to scream at the top of our lungs to try and freak out the people doing the training close by.  Clearly, Mike and I were successful, as you will hear!

Today’s symptoms: Still very tired, fatigued and achy.  Hoping tomorrow will be much better and this infection is finally leaving the premises!

Just Lounging Around

The heat is really picking up.  As usual, as soon as I get home from work, Pinky goes running over to the balcony door.  I let her out for a bit – not too long or she’ll get sunburned:

005

The other goofs wander out there too, sometimes, but not as much as Pinky.  Boo’s favourite spot is in the bedroom, usually snuggled near or with Donkay:

photo 5

When I took that pic, Mya was clearly too tired to care about how cute her sister looked:

photo 2

Three of the four goobers needed a bath yesterday.  With no fur, oil accumulates on their skin, more so in the heat.  For some reason, little princess Mya doesn’t have this problem to the same extent.  I wanted to admire Abby’s clean belly after her bath – she was not amused:

photo 1

I was hoping to fly over the Canada Day fireworks around Niagara last night, but wasn’t feeling up to it.  My stinkin bladder infection is back.  I’m really going to try and fight it off more naturally than with antibiotics.  I’ve already been on them three times in a six month period recently, and I don’t want my already rickety bod to start becoming immune to them.  Plus, they throw off my Tysarbi schedule, as I cannot have the infusion during or a week after the antibiotics.  So, I’ve been drinking tons of water, cranberry juice and pills, D-Mannose and apple cider vinegar.  Just in the last day, it already seems to be improving a bit.  Paws crossed!  Speaking of paws, Mya was rather interested in watching the fireworks from my bedroom window:

006

Had a decent show just North of us:

009

Then Donkay had to check out the action:

008

Yup, another joyous day in my lovely household.

Today’s symptoms:  Still have a bit of the sinus infection lingering, plus dealing with the bladder infection, which always completely wipes me out.  Very fatigued today with average aches and pains plus a somewhat worse than “normal” headache.

Zombie Kittah

The kitties wanted to go out on the balcony (screened in – no worries!) to enjoy the heat and sun.  I heard some weird noises so went out to investigate.  Pinky was looking at me really funny so I picked her up to see what was wrong.  That’s when it happened – she let out a ferocious hiss and flashed a pair of huge vampire-ish fangs at me.  I jumped back with fear as she leapt from my arms.  Boo let a a fearful meow so I quickly ran over and grabbed her.  Pinky lunged at us so I shielded Boo.  She then sank her fangs into my neck:

Pinky

Somehow she turned into some sort of vampire type zombie thing.  Fortunately for me, the effects were short lived and I regained consciousness about an hour later.  Pinky seems back to normal – Boo actually doesn’t seem traumatized at all.  Was I just dreaming?

photo 3

Little Pinky actually looks more cute and innocent than before the “incident”:

photo 4

I think I need to lay off the spooky movies for a bit…

Last week, I had my Tysabri infusion after almost a two month hiatus.

photo 11

I had to go off of the monthly medication as I was having a bit of a flare-up and my neurologist needed to first rule out any side effects from the medication, such as PML.  I was quite glad to find out everything was all good and I could go back on the med.  As much as I don’t like having the infusion (always feel rather yucky for a couple days after), but as long as it’s doing what it’s supposed to!  I was actually hoping to feel better than I usually do after the infusion the next day, so Mike and I could fly up to Edenvale for breakfast.  Didn’t happen though.  I felt well enough to head over to Cora’s for breakkie, which was awesome as usual:

photo 2

Afterwards, we headed back to my place and just chilled for the rest of the day so I could recover.

Thankfully, I’m feeling much better now despite a sinus infection that started a few days ago.  Tomorrow, I will be flying over the golf tournament my office is holding.  I was just going to take a couple hours off to do the flight, but I think I’m going to be a rebel and take the whole day off.  I have some highly joyous things to do around the apartment when I get back, such as clean windows and the floors.  Please, try and control your jealousy.

Today’s symptoms: Actually felt fairly well today, after a bad day yesterday.  A rather bad headache due to the sinus infection plus some extra body aches and pains.  I plan on beating the bout of insomnia I’m experiencing and waking up tomorrow feeling all bright eyed and bushy haired.

Vyctor’s Famous!

I’m rather excited about today’s post.  I mentioned in a previous blog that Mike and I flew up to Barrie for some air to air photos we won during last year’s 99’s Bingo Run.  The photo was taken by Peter Lubig.  He was kind enough to write an article for Canadian Aviator magazine on me having MS and being a pilot.  Of course, the star of the article was Vyctor.

McFly4

Mike was kind enough to pick up the magazine for me today!  I was so shocked to see Vyctor on the front page.

McFly5

McFly

If you would like to see the article online, you can check it out HERE.  It was very well written – Peter did a great job!

I had a friend email the other day stating he received his copy of the magazine.  He commented on my tattoo.  What?  How did that get in there?

McFly2

Oh right, I flashed it to Peter before taking off for our air to air photo.  Tee hee!

McFly3

Wow!  I still can’t believe how many pages the article is and the size of the pics!  So there you have it, Vyctor is famous!

Today’s symptoms:  I had a really long but awesome day yesterday so I’m kinda paying for it today – totally worth it though!  Really bad crushing pains in my paws and and much worse than normal headache.  Fatigue is pretty bad but it’ll be better tomorrow!

Altered Kitties

Mike and I both really like that Pharrell Williams song, Happy.  Mind you, whenever we hear it, we change the lyrics to “I’m Abby!”  Yes, we’re weird.  Ok, maybe weird to describe me isn’t a strong enough word.  Here’s the album art for the song:

Pharrell_Williams_-_Happy

I may have tweaked the title and pic a little:

Habby

Just to divert the “weirdness” attention from me a little, look at little Mya emerging from under the couch:

001

AND, even WAY more weird than me is this joyous little story.  My mother called me up the other night and just said she had quite the ordeal.  Like me, she rather dislikes spiders.  Well she went down into the kitchen at dusk with no light on.  She looked down and noticed this massive spider!  Yuck!  It was so big that even using a can of Raid (which she keeps one of in every room of the house) probably wouldn’t kill it before it took off.  She decided to run and grab a shoe out of the closet.  She was actually rather surprised to see that the spider hadn’t moved when she ran back into the kitchen.  Poor thing didn’t have a chance – she pounded the dickens out of it.  Once she was able to catch her breath, she noticed that there were no spider bits anywhere.  Actually, it looked exactly the same as before she whacked it.  Turning the kitchen light on, she discovered why – it wasn’t a spider but the top off of the tomato she had with her dinner earlier!  Tee hee – what a cute little dork!

I guess I better take back the weird spotlight.  Mike asked me to send him the pics of Boo and Pinky, sitting together:

IMG_2489

In the second shot, Boo turned to look at Pinky as if she just did a little toot-a-roo under the blanket.  Again, I may have altered the pic just a little:

Pinky Fart

I guess I better stop or my blog readers may have mildly disturbing dreams….sorry!

Today’s symptoms:  Had a few nights of insomnia, so really feeling it today.  Very fatigued, bad aches and pains all over (always much worse the more fatigued I am) plus a pretty bad headache.  I’m going to take some Sleepy-time Tea tonight plus a sleep aid, hoping that will help.

Still Up At 2:00am

Had an amazing weekend.  Mike and I went to see Edge of Tomorrow at the theatre on Saturday.  It was really good and we would both recommend it.  On the way back from the show, we stopped in at Giant Tiger to get some tuna that was on sale.  I really love tuna and have never seen Ocean’s brand for only $1 before, so I picked up ten cans.  That was all I went in there to buy so did not get a cart to carry them.  There was a cute, older woman in line in front of me.  I was still holding the stacks of cans as there was not enough room on the conveyor belt to set them down.  The belt moved forward so I went to put the cans down when I had a rather sharp but brief MS-related spasm in my left arm.  Well, that sent those cans just a’flying!  I was so worried that one was going to hit the woman, they all missed her.  The way I was years ago, this event would have made me extremely embarrassed.  It didn’t at all though – I just said that was really bad timing for a spasm – just a slight medical issue!

On Sunday, we went to a fly-in at the Guelph Airport.  I don’t know why I have never flown there before.  Anyway, we had to fly to Welland first to get fuel as the fuel truck in St. Catharines was out of  service.  After a quick stop, we headed west to Guelph.  There is no tower there so you basically talk to the other planes in the area, tell them where you are and where you’re going.  I got into the circuit and turned the base leg.  I noticed there was a plane at the threshold of the runway, ready for take off.  Lots of time since I still had to turn final.  Well, I did turn final and dude was still there.  I announced twice that I was on final, plus there was another plane behind me.  I started doing some S turns to give the guy time to take off.  I could no believe he sat there that long.  I thought I was going to have to overshoot the runway, but was also thinking that clearly this guy wasn’t too bright, so what if I declare an overshoot and he still takes off?  Fortunately, he finally took off and I was able to land safe and sound.  I got off the runway onto the taxiway as soon as possible (as you’re supposed to do).  Apparently the guy behind me kept going all the way to the end of the runway once he landed.  The guy behind him therefore would not be able to land on a clear runway so he did an overshoot.  He was quite ticked off as he radioed the plane that caused him to overshoot and yelled to get off the runway next time.  Geesh!  I was quite glad to get parked after that:

Image

We were both rather hungry so we grabbed a burger from the BBQ.  The only seats were in the sun, and since we’re both the colour of bleached socks, we searched for shade.  The only shade available was under the wings of Vyctor, so that’s where we sat and nommed:

Image

Really delicious burgers, by the way:

Image

After our awesome food, we checked out the rest of the planes at the event, then headed back to Vyc.  During the flight home, we decided to go see yet another movie.  So, we landed then drove over to the cinema at the PEN Centre.  I really wanted to see The Fault In Our Stars.  After seeing the trailer, I knew I was going to be just a tad emotional.  I thought I would be safe with four Kleenex.  Nope.  I soaked through those bad boys and half a serviette.  I’m glad the movie didn’t go any longer at that point, because I was about to take off my sock to use.  Wow.  Absolutely amazing movie.  Mike really liked it too.

Even though I was really exhausted, we went to the Target store on the other side of the mall, which was closing.  We had to walk out of the mall and into Target via the external doors to get in.  Walking back to the other end of the mall was kinda eerie, as we were the only ones there:

Image

It was a perfect weekend, but I think I may have done a tad too much.  I was physically pooped and emotionally drained from the movie.  I was in bed by 9:30.  I fell asleep after 11:00 but was up a couple hours later.  That’s when things weren’t so fun anymore.  When I am super exhausted and extremely fatigued, I sometimes hallucinate.  It only ever happens at night. The last time was probably two years ago.  Around 2:00am, I started seeing stuff.  My hallucinations typically have spiders in them, I guess because I hate them so much. Anyway, while it’s all going on, I am completely aware that I am hallucinating and what I’m seeing and sensing isn’t really there, but it seems so real that the fear is still there.  I honestly can’t believe people voluntarily take drugs to hallucinate.  I hate it – why the heck would anyone want to go through that?  Is there such thing as a good hallucination?  The stuff last night was horrible.  I wanted to call someone so badly to have them just be there as support.  I ended up texting my mother just after 4:00am.  Here’s our conversation.  Just keep in mind, I’m still seeing everything I’m describing.  (My poor mother!):

Image

Image

Image

Isn’t that wild?!??!?  Wow, I can still picture everything perfectly.  Needless to say, I’m just a tad tired today.  And by tired, I’m mean totally wiped out.

I actually have more to write about the weekend, but I’ll do that in the next post.  Stay tuned.

Today’s symptoms: Very fatigued, bad headache and really looking forward to going to bed tonight.

Friday 13th – Port Dover

It took an insane amount of time, but I finally got all of my 474 blog posts from my GoDaddy site transferred over to WordPress.  I’ll send everyone subscribed to my previous blog an email inviting them to subscribe to the new site.  If you would like my new blogs to automatically show up in your email once I publish them, you can subscribe to them by clicking on the Follow button down in the bottom right hand corner of my blog.  You just have to enter your email address and voila!

Have a decent day to report on this spiffy new blog site.  Being the only Friday the 13th this year, I was compelled (as I am every year) to fly over Port Dover and check out the thousands of bikers who meet up there.   The weather was a little poopy this year though.  I flew through a bit of rain on the way.  I was quite happy to see the plant at Nanticoke, which I flew over:

IMG_4078

Soon after, Port Dover was in site:

IMG_4081_0000

The sea of black leather and motorcycles was soon apparent:

IMG_4093_0000

It almost doesn’t look real:

IMG_4094_0000

IMG_4096_0000

IMG_4114_0000

So cool to see!  I knew a few people who were down there at the time I flew over.  I’ll have to ask if they saw my cute little plane.

Coming back to St. Catharines, I hit a fairly big storm.  I heard there were thunderstorms there, so I did my first airport diversion ever since being a pilot, and landed at Grimsby to wait it out.  I contacted the St. Catharines Airport tower to let them know I had landed and got a weather update.  Within ten minutes of landing, I was able to take off again in a light shower and head to St. Catharines.  Just like me, my co-pilot was calm and collected in the less than nice weather:

photo 2

On a bright note, my plane got nice and clean!  Once back in the hangar, the Flying Club’s massively fat cat (with my assistance) sat in the pilot seat:

photo 3

After snapping a couple pics, I hoisted the enormous ball of lard and fluff back onto the ground.  I know have a very sore back.

Back at the apartment, Pinky quickly found the bag I had set on the kitchen counter after unloading it:

photo 5

I said “Wink if you want a butt rub!”

photo 4

Oh geez!

Today’s symptoms:  Still feeling pretty good after my awesome flight.  Not as fatigued as I usually get after flying.  Have a pretty bad headache though.

Charity Fly-Over

I was asked to do a fly-over for the “For The Needy, Not The Greedy” charity golf tourney.  They supply medical equipment to people and organizations in need.  Pretty awesome!  I did some aerobatics for the golfers at the start of the tournament, then flew “normally” and took some pics:

It was a fun time for me and from some of the reactions I got from people on the ground, they liked it too.

I was invited to the dinner at the golf course that evening, which was really nice.  Great food!  I was able to bring Mike with me – he was pretty excited, mainly about the desserts:

Yummola!

I got to fly again last night as we had our Recreational Aircraft Association meeting in Welland.

We had a great turn out, as usual.  Good food too:

Speaking of good food, a friend of mine gave me a jar of awesome Greaves Jam:

Mike, Donkay and I headed back to St. Catharines before 8:00 so Vyctor could be put in the hangar before they closed up for the night.

I was notified by GoDaddy about a month ago that they are getting rid of their blogs.  Ugh, I’m now in the process of moving my entire blog over to WordPress.  It’s going to look great but it’s taking a very long time.  I have all of the entries transferred over (almost 500 posts) and now I have to repost each one individually plus do some formatting.  For anyone subscribed to my blog, you’ll be able to very easily subscribe to the one on the WordPress site, once I get everything finished.  I’ll update my website with the new blog address.  Stay tuned!

Today’s symptoms: Actually felt fairly decent.  After feeling so fatigued after our camping trip, I now seem to be back to my “normal” self.

Long Point Camping

Mike and I went camping at Long Point again last weekend.  We were actually there for five nights.  Mike’s uncle lent us his trailer and my little mother lent us her car, so we were going in luxury.  As the last time we were there, I had to plank things:

The camping trailer was so fast and easy to set up – we couldn’t believe it:

Soon after setting up, we went for a short walk on the beach.  Saw this little cutie – not sure what kind of bird it is:

We just chilled for the rest of the day.  I was a little pooped from the drive, plus we had to save our energy for the next day.  We were signed up for zip lining at Long Point Eco-Adventure.  Our session started at 11:00, which allowed us to kinda take our time in the morning.  We had six other people in our group.  After gearing up and taking a ground school, we zip lined off the second floor of the building and over to the first platform in the trees.  There were eight altogether.  The extra nice part was I have a helmet strap for my GoPro video camera, so Mike and I took turns wearing it while zipping along.  I’ll post some videos on my video page very soon! Here’s one of the great views:

Taking a small break after walking across a cool suspension bridge then over to the next platform:

After doing the final line which was 800 feet, I decided to dangle and have a little rest:

It was an amazing day.  We hope to go back in September and do the night zip lining!  We just need enough people to join us.We spent the rest of the trip mostly just relaxing.  We did have to go into town the day after zip lining as I had a little issue with my toothbrush.  After brushing, I flicked the head to dry it off.  Bad idea:

While in town (Port Rowan), we wandered around to the different stores.  We also stopped in at our favourite restaurant, the Sunrise Cafe:

Yummy.  They really have great food.Back at the campsite, it was time for more relaxing.  We sat down and worked on a Disney Planes activity book with a nice bottle of wine that Mike’s dad made:

The next day we drove down the road to a really nice trail around a pond.  Saw some cute little geeselettes:

Also a little frog that wasn’t too keen on letting me catch him:

A couple of nights, we got the fire going and made some piggies out of weenies:

It was an awesome trip.  We were actually planning on going home Monday but decided to stay an extra day.  We can’t wait to go back in September!Today’s symptoms:  Still a bit weak.  After the camping trip, I was much more fatigued than normal.  I went home sick from work early on Thursday and Friday.  I actually left before 10am on Friday, went home and slept for two hours!  Spent all of yesterday in the apartment as I still wasn’t feeling well enough to go out.  Kinda sucks that I typically have to pay physically for doing out of the norm stuff such as camping, but it’s totally worth it!

First Fly-In Of The Season

We had amazing weather this weekend which was awesome, as we were hoping to fly to Exeter.  They were having a COPA fly-in breakfast.  It was a rather smooth flight there, and took us about an hour and fifteen minutes.  As usual, Donkay joined us:

It was a little hard to spot the runway, as it’s a grass strip.  We were also trying to keep track of all of the other planes in the circuit.  Mike took some pics of us coming in:

Lots of folks were outside, watching all the planes arrive:

We had a nice time.  I had a great chat with my friend Tom and met up with someone from Welland.

Heading back, we flew over this yellow dude:

Once back in St. Catharines, we followed another plane in from downwind to base to final, but then a glider approached to land on one of the smaller runways.  It was requested that I then follow the glider to some degree in order to give him time to land.  I ended up doing some funky turns in order to give the glider more time:

The glider landed then we came in for our own landing.

Soon after we parked, we were blessed with seeing the Lancaster doing a low and over:

Another nice surprise was when this bad boy flew over where we were later that afternoon:

Awesome day and we look forward to all of the upcoming fly-ins this summer.

Back at home, we watched a movie at my place.  Mike put his cup of water down – big mistake (as it always is):

Nice of Abby to clean Mya while she was drinking.

Today’s symptoms: I didn’t feel too well today.  I woke up at 3:00am and wasn’t able to fall back to sleep.  Had a fairly bad headache and was really fatigued all day.  On a bright note, most of the pain in my hands is gone!

MS Flare-Up?

Ok, I’m a huge slacker.  I can explain though!  I’ve been feeling rather lousy.  A couple of weeks ago, I started having severe crushing pain in my hands, mostly the right one.  A few days into it, there was a burning sensation along with the pain.  I phoned my neurologist in Hamilton and got in to see him the next day.  My little mother and I headed to my appointment, which was rather convenient since we were going to see each other that day anyway.  Not that I think that her company alone isn’t sufficient, but I decided to bring Donkay along as well:

I think Jan had some choice names for me when I put him on her knee…During the wait to see the doctor, I decided to kill some time by making some wanted posters of my cats:

My neurologist sent me for a somewhat urgent MRI, just to rule out PML, which can be caused by Tysabri.

After leaving his office, we went over to the Limeridge Mall for some shopping.  One of my joyous purchases was this groovy necklace:

We actually didn’t end up buying too much, but it was fun to wander around, chat and keep my mind off of things.  We then hit the Fox and Fiddle restaurant, which is in the mall.  I saw a whole new side of Donkay during dinner.  First he hit Jan’s beer:

He got a little tipsy and started pole dancing on my wine class:

I guess we all need to let loose now and then!

All in all, it was a really fun day, spent with my favourite little mother.

I had my MRI at the St. Catharines hospital this past Sunday.  It was either my twelfth or thirteenth one, with the last one just in March.  I normally fall asleep in the machine, which is pretty insane considering how loud they are.  If you’ve ever wondered what it sounds like in an MRI, check out this video!  About twenty minutes into the scan, they pulled me out of the machine and injected the contrast agent.  I think I was in there less than ten minutes after that.  For some reason, I was completely out of it when the test was done.  I remember wondering where the heck I was – I almost felt drunk.  Not sure what happened there!

Since I haven’t been feeling well, my activities have been fairly limited.  Mike and I ended up watching quite a few movies this weekend, whilst chilling with the kitties:

We ordered out for dinner a couple times.  Abby has become very bold and unlady-like.  Mind you, taunting her with fries probably didn’t help:

We told her she was being very naughty:

She learned her lesson and was far better behaved the next night:

It was a nice relaxing weekend.  I’m very happy to say that I’m starting to feel better.  The pain is lessening each day.  I picked up my MRI images from the hospital yesterday and it looks like I may have a new lesion:

I go back to see the neurologist on Friday, so I guess we’ll discuss the results then.  Stay tuned!

Today’s symptoms: I felt fairly decent today.  My fatigue level was average for me – I had to take a wake-up pill around 1:30.  Feeling less pain in my hands than I have in two weeks, so I’m quite happy about that.

Walk for MS Flyover

The Walk for MS took place this past Sunday.  We were so grateful the weather was decent for the morning.  Mike and I took off  just before 9:00 and headed over Port Dalhousie, which was one of three Walk sites in Niagara.  Before the Walk started, they announced I was flying over again this year, then I did some aerobatics.  Once we descended a bit, Mike snapped some pics of the Walkers:

After circling around Port Dalhousie for a bit, we then headed over to the Welland site and then to Chippawa:

When we got back home and looked through the pics, it was kinda neat to see we got one of someone waving at us:

Another nice sight was this Mustang that landed in St. Catharines soon after us:

I’m happy to report I made my goal for the MS Walk of $1000.  You can check out my pledge page here.  Thanks to everyone who supported me!

Sticking with the awesome sight pics, here’s one Mike and I noticed.  These funky, pillar-looking clouds are just over the shoreline to the West of Toronto.  I’ve never seen anything like it:

They actually lasted a couple days.  Weird.  Doesn’t even look real.

And finally, what better sights are there than these.  Little Abby being all cute and licky:

Mya trying to convince me that she’s the cutest cat of the four:

Pinky has no intention of ever being labelled the cutest, as long as she keeps getting her daily butt rubs:

Mya actually thinks she’s so unbelievably cute, that she is entitled to sit on the other kitties.  Here she is with her rear end up on Pinky, who is sitting on the heater behind my bed:

She’s so weird.

Today’s symptoms: Rather fatigued today and am having really bad crushing pains in my hands.  Blah.  Kinda looking forward to going to bed tonight, and hope the pain is gone tomorrow.

Campsite From Above

As I mentioned in my last blog, I had a great weekend.  I flew Mike and I to London for breakfast on Sunday.  It took a little less than an hour to get there.  There were a few other aircraft in the circuit, including this awesome private jet:

We had a great view of the runway while in the restaurant eating our tasty breakfast.  Unfortunately, Mike’s order was wrong so we nommed on my breakkie before his came out quite some time later.  Oh, and I couldn’t find Donkay so this was his replacement for the flight:

At least we had the view to enjoy while waiting for his noms.  There were quite a few larger commercial flights that flew in and out while we were there, including a couple Jazz planes:

Since Mike and I are going camping at Long Point Provincial Park again in May, we decided to fly over it and check out our exact campsite from the air.

That large round clearing to the right is directly right of our site.  That’s the site we had last year when we were there in September – most perfect site ever.  No one across from us or to the right and less than a two minute walk from the beach.

Here’s a shot of the Long Point area while we were heading back to the Lake Erie shoreline:

We passed a massive mansion under construction last year.  I see it’s still not quite finished:

Another awesome part of our flight was testing out the new GoPro camera I bought.  It’s so much more convenient to start the camera via the iPhone app, rather than just have the video record the entire flight.  Kinda neat to see what the camera was seeing on my phone:

The video quality is amazing.  I’m so happy with this camera.  Now I can use my old camera to video my passenger and I when we’re doing aerobatics.

Back at home after the flight, we chilled out and watched a couple movies with the kitties.  Mike got himself a drink of water and mistakenly left it unattended.  Everyone except Boo had a slurp:

Very naughty kitties.  Boo was behaving herself for a change, in the bedroom:

For some reason, I decided to gather a few of them up so we could have a little chat.  It sorta went well at first:

But then not so much:

Lesson learned!

Today’s symptoms: Felt a bit more tired and fatigued than normal.  Still having bad spasms in my calves and arms.  Not quite as bad as the other day though.

Walk for MS

I can’t believe it’s that time of the year already!  The annual Walk for MS is this Sunday (May 4th).  As I’ve done for the last six years, I’ll be flying over all three Walk sites in Niagara, while the event is underway.  It’s such a rush to look down and see all the folks walking for this cause.  If you would like to check out my sponsor page, please click HERE.Paws crossed the weather is good.  I’m so glad they’ve changed it to May, especially after the poopola April we had this year. Here’s a pic I took last year, whilst flying over Port Dalhousie:

The two other Walk site are in Welland and Chippawa.  After I land, I usually head over to the Lions Club in Port Dalhousie and visit with everyone.  Good times!I had an amazing weekend and am looking forward to blogging about it.  However, I didn’t get too much sleep last night and am going to finish doing stuff around here then crawl into bed early.  Mind you, I just went in the bedroom and noticed that my bed is covered in kitties.  Hopefully I can find a corner to curl up on and perhaps a little fold of blanket.  Hmmm….

Today’s symptoms:  Actually felt pretty good today, despite my very busy and awesome weekend!  The worst thing symptom-wise was my calves going into major spasms on the walk home from work.  Also, my right forearm has been going into spasms for the last couple of hours too.  I’m going to rename my body Spaztropolis.

Easterific

Had a marvelous four day weekend.  The weather was great – finally!  Mike hadn’t been to the Waterloo Airport before so we headed there for breakkie on Saturday.  For some reason, I thought it was over an hour flight there but it’s only about 40 minutes.  I’ve been there are few times too.  Duh.  There were about seven of us in the circuit when I entered.  It’s always quite busy there.

Great breakfast.

We had to wait for about four planes to land before we were cleared out onto the runway:

Had a nice flight home.  Mike had the camera and snapped a few pics:

As usual, Donkay joined us:

This one is of the firing range near Grimsby:

I went to that range quite a few times when I was in the Army.  Here’s a pic of me heading down to the water to watch for boats:

That was the day they all stopped firing and went to eat lunch – forgot to tell me over the radio though.  There I sat, all alone, stomach growling.  Geesh.

We made it back to St. Catharines, safe and sound with full bellies.

Before going home, we decided to hit the Fairview Mall.  We were shocked to see how much traffic there was.  Then we saw a traffic light out – then another…  We finally made it into the parking lot in front of Future Shop, only to be told by someone coming out that there’s a power failure and the mall was closed.  I checked online to see the area of the outage and was shocked to see how huge it was:

It was quite a long drive to get out of the parking lot, due to the mass exodus.  There were a lot of really snippy, miserable people who of course had to make the experience ten times worse by driving like complete idiots.  We couldn’t believe how some of them cut whole lines of traffic right off.  But they had to be first!

Once the power was back on, Mike and I were able to make a truly gourmet meal.  We wanted poutine but didn’t have any cheese.  Instead, we made mashed potatoes poutine:

Potatorific!

We had a much better meal on Sunday.  My mother, Mike and myself went over to his sister’s house for Easter dinner.  This was the first time my mother has met a good chunk of his family – having only met his mother before then.  It was a really nice time, especially playing with the little kids, like this one:

Mike had to work Monday, but since I was off and the weather was nice, I went for another flight.  Flew over my little mother’s house.  She waved from the driveway:

I then headed over Niagara Falls:

Checked out a brush fire:

Did a couple circuits back at CYSN then rolled little Vyctor back to the Flying Club for safe keeping.  Now that the weather is nicer, I get to start using my favourite pitot static cover again:

Now that’s classy!

After my flight and once Mike got home from work, we headed over to my friend Laura’s to meet their new, cute, tiny puppy, Bella:

Adorable!  I still can’t believe how small she is – only 2.5 lbs!  Of course, I also had to introduce Mike to the equally cute gecko, Peanut:

His eyes are almost as googly as Abby’s:

Actually, she’s not her normal insanely googly self in that pic, but still very cute.

Today’s symptoms: Not sure what happened around 9:00 this morning, but I was suddenly overwhelmed with fatigue.  I had a really hard time staying awake and had to take a wake-up pill.  It may have been from all the excitement this weekend.  Not sure but I’m hoping I feel much better tomorrow.

Windzilla

I was off last Thursday and decided to go for a flight.  My aviation mechanic said he needed something dropped off to the Aircraft Spruce store at the Brantford Airport.  Since I really didn’t have a destination in mind, I figured I could do this small favour for him.  When I arrived at the St. Catharines Airport, I headed up to the tower to drop off some fudge.

Then I headed down to little Vyctor and flew over to Welland to pick up my mechanic’s loot.  The winds were very strong that day.  By the time I was over the end of the runway, I was already at 1500 feet!  The tower called me, kinda chuckling, stating my ground speed was 30 knots.  Oh geez – this was going to be a long flight!  It took me seven minutes just to leave St. Catharines airspace, as I was going almost straight into the wind.  I also had to tighten my seat belts due to the turbulence.  Eventually, I made it to Welland though.  I landed, dropped off more fudge, picked up the stuff to go to Brantford, then departed.  So long, Welland:

I would never take up a passenger in wind like that – it was crazy!  Very fun for me though.  I landed in Brantford, hit Aircraft Spruce, then it was back to St. Catharines:

With the tail wind, the trip back was quite a bit faster.  Turbulence was no better though.  Weeeeee!!!!

Back home, I opened my mitten drawer to get out my binoculars to check something out outside.  It was only open for two minutes, and when I turned around:

Mya is so cute but can be a real trouble maker.   You can see her unbelievably cute side in this pic with Boo:

On the weekend, Mike and I flew to Welland for a Transport Canada safety seminar.  It was amazing weather and there were quite a few people flying that day.  As usual when I fly, Donkay joins me:

The seminar was great.  Once back in St. Catharines, we walked downtown to hit Timmies and some shops.  We ordered our food then I accidentally pointed out to Mike the Easter donut.  Well, he just had to have it!

I must admit, that was mighty fine!

We wandered around a bunch of stores downtown, including a couple book stores, discount store, British boutique and shoe store.  With all that excitement and walking, we were getting kinda hungry again.  We went to The Works where Mike ordered a burger topped with peanut butter, bananas and bacon.  Slurp:

Strange combination but very yummy.  You would think he would have been full after eating that, but apparently not full enough.  He tried to eat Abby when we got home:

Fortunately, she escaped with her life.

Today’s symptoms: I’m really not sure what happened.  I woke up after sleeping quite well last night.  Just before 9:00, I suddenly felt like I was hit by a Boeing 777.  I ended up having to go home around 10:00.  I slept for over an hour when I got home, then had to lay down again a few hours later.  I still feel really poopy – very tired and fatigued, achy and just all over blah.
